Re: Clos De Vougeot in Bordeaux, Chez Alex
Producer, producer... right drinking window... I try to limit my exploration of new producers despite the price gaps... Ref Clos Vougeot this always requires a lot of time and 2002 style fitted well the grand cru as it softened the toughness (Grivot CV 2002 is stellar) Thanks a lot Ian and Alex for ...

I am getting scared. I broke the bank for Pontet canet and Montrose and have only tasted Pontet canet so far (with Tesseron and co with Ian). What is your advice? Should I Montrose or not?

Excellent report Comte! I have a lot of 2004s as it is my (2nd) wedding year...although none of these. Had Pichon Lalande and VCC over the last year and both were very great.

My bottles are in Provence so not before Easter. The village plot is located quite away from the 1er cru spot. So no reason it shoudl taste anywhere like the 1er cru (higher altitude, not same orientation...). Note, Anne Gros, Mugnier (blended with 1er cru plantes to make Mugnier village), Grivot, D...

The Combe orveaux is my poor man Musigny. I have the TM 2012 and 2015 but not the 2011. Maybe I should try the Combe d'Orveaux Clavelier 2011 as the TM won't be so approachable

I was at the Pontet Canet dinner with Alex, Ian and Tesseron, I own a case of 2003 and I have drunk other vintages a very few times. Good wines no question. But I have had great experiences with Pichon Baron and Lalande quite a few times, never with Pontet Canet. On the other hand, none of the Comme...

Go for Corton...Charlemagne if you don't want disappointment. Also 2005 definitely better for red than white Burgs. I personally prefer the Meursaults 1er crus and also Puligny, Chassagne and Saint Aubin (the 1er crus can be splendid QPRs) Domaine de Chevalier not bad either but pricey... (no more t...

Alex,
You are the Super Hero,
It seems part of the problem is distribution?
Other part is small chateaux are seen as inferior growth and people are reluctant to go for inferior. .. which is a bit unfair as they are not inferior when young...they just need less time to mature...

No, the big have not got better than the small but: - Prices have gone up a lot - Big negociants can spend a lot more of money in marketing - They get more exposure and publicity - The small producers don't do more marketing as they continue to do what they used to (visits,...) and they rely on repu...

We always have it around Xmas of course. I go through Doisy Daene 2005 (a 24 half bottles case) and La Tour Blanche 2001 (bottles) and rarely other ones (when we have WIMPS lunch in London).
