Re: The 2006 Vieux Telegraphe "La Crau" has been uncorked....

With all that snow, I can see how you would want to open a wine like that. Sometimes Chateauneuf drinks brilliantly young. The idea that they don't close down is a myth I think, although Harry could clear that one up. A few years ago I had an Usseglio '04 (I think it was Raymond) that was beautiful ...

Re: TNs: G. Mascarello '04 Barbera & Pernot '07 Bourgogne Bl.

Ian, The Mascarello was around $26 and it's Giuseppe. But you knew that. John, I believe you. I hope the '07s are an all-around good to great vintage, as you say (I'm paraphrasing, I guess). It will be tough to beat the previous trio, however, or live up to them. What would you say the style is? Wha...

TNs: G. Mascarello '04 Barbera & Pernot '07 Bourgogne Bl.

G. Mascarello '04 Barbera d'Alba Color shows some maturity. Nose somewhat subdued but opened up to reveal dark cherries and some earthy, spicy notes. Typical Barbera nose. You could almost call them, "barbera-berries." Full bodied with the acid a little to the fore, but still balanced. Lov...

Re: OMGs! Wine prices

A favorite of mine should be coming into Z's soon at a good price, La Fleur de Jaugue. The right bank is supposed to be good in '06 and WA calls it a sleeper. The futures price is $20. I have to say though, I'm certainly intrigued by the Cantemerle. I agree though, I can't stand to see those 1st gro...

I like Picque Caillou - the 2000 was very very nice and I drank about five bottles (not in one sitting, mind you). I tried the '04 next to '04 du Tertre and you can guess which one I bought that time. But it wasn't bad at all. I almost caved in on a mag. later on. BTW, what is that house special Arg...

Re: TN: Domaine Bart Fixin 2005

That's interesting, Jim. I guess Fixin is one of those appellations to look for bargains in Burgundy. Jadot makes a Fixin and it's pretty easy to find, but in the past several vintages, the WA has criticized it sharply, so I didn't try it. Maybe that was a mistake. I want to add also that this wine ...

Domaine Bart Fixin 2005 I tried this wine about a year ago after purchasing a few bottles. At the time it was good, but there was a slight medicinal note that said, "see you later." Well, tonight a year later, the wine has entered a more ready phase. Dark ruby purple color, almost opaque, ...

A commendable reconsideration, Richard. Great news. I tried the '04 C-S once and liked it but thought it was somewhat as a few had described, commercial, not terribly serious. But I love the vintages you mentioned, and of course, Chasse-Spleen. I think it's a wine that's often underestimated and can...
