Re: What's the BWE take on 2008 BDX?

FWIW I went quite long on 08 Bordeaux... I like acid and less alcohol. The wines tend to hold up better and grow old gracefully as oppose to suddenly dropping off a cliff! However, with the price rises of the Mouton and Duhart from 08, I think I will be selling those before the 09s release and keepi...

Re: The 2009 Bordeaux hype machine roars to life!

It is interesting that the UK critics have generally been very reserved and advise caution; like many it is a good vintage with great wines (only this year it is the usual suspects!) which ultimately leads to..'greatest vintage since the Romans' jargon. From what I have heard, on this side of the po...

Re: TN: 86 Mouton

At an Bordeaux 86 horizontal last summer in London, the star wines were the 86 LAfite, 86 Ducru, and 86 Palmer.
And I agree with Alex on the 'only great bottles', because the Mouton and Margaux were good but not great compared to other bottles of the same wine.

For me Cos 90 is one of the few 90s that beats its 89 equivalent, and for me although debate may rage, from what I've tasted only LAngoa-B falls into the same category, although Leoville-B 90 is so similar to the 89 its hard to pick which is better... they are probably in equilibrium! I find that from certain Producers like La-C, Trotanoy, VCC, Pomerol can provide great enjoyment every year (in some you need to drink earlier than others). Agree with David re. 90 Conseillante... its a stupendous wine when on form, as are most Conseillantes from great vintages (and some not so great).
The 90 is singing right now. I certainly hope you have a few more, it would be a shame if your only/last one was a baddy!

Of the three 86s I've tried, one has been sublime and two horribly tainted, but in a way that it seemed the cork was not at fault as the TCA just seemed to sit on top of every sip, rather than engulf the wine!

I don't think any of those vintages got off lightly!

Jim, you won't regret it.

Alion is a really wonderful wine, more rustic than the Valbuena/Unico/Reserva Especial (even from bad vintages these are better), but the Alion has a svelte character that is more appealing than the often bruising although tasty Pintia.
