I thank everyone for your contributions and arguments, all delivered with passion and good will.
The final decision will be announced between now and New Years Eve.

What happens if you have an even better wine on, say, Christmas Eve?

I had the BWE 2009 wine of the year last night paired with the wine that was produced around that time. It was a magnificent bottle, like the one we had in 2009, from the same case. A strong contender for my woty.

The 2009 brought along by my friend was predictably very young, with the oak yet to integrate and an uncharacteristically highly ABV of 13.5%. It will be a great wine in time, but I am not sure it will ever beat the 1989, 12.5% ABV.

Forgive me Jim but I’ve read between the lines here and have taken the liberty of informing the Cazes family (who I know well) of both their spectacular achievement of BWE wine of year in 2021 for the 16 Lynch, and also their upcoming promotion to super second category in the new classification. Bring on 2022!

Looking forward who is the winner. But i feel a bit of trouble in The Force...

Very good one Ambrose.

BWE WOTY is all about non linear decision, made with the right mix of head and heart. And clearly the World is waiting for it more than any critics or magazines or WineBerseker 2021 no 1 wine.

I just compiled my list of my top 100 wines of 2021.

One notable under achiever was La Conseillante. The only one that got in my top 100 was the 2005 ranked #98 out of 100.

I'm quite curious to see this list however when I click it, I get sent to old blog posts of my own from 2014. Can't seem to see yours. Anyone else having the same issue?

Thanks, Nic. Seems obvious in hindsight. I guess i'm used to just seeing that on all his posts.

Great list, Ian. You drank very well this year. I'm lucky enough to have tried or purchased about 15-20 off of your list in the last year or two.

1985 Las Cases is on my 2022 bucket list for sure. A lot of your other top 20 are a bit out of reach price wise. I was able to get 6 bottles of the 2014 VCC at a fair price recently though.

I'll say this, I'm not surprised to see the Burlotto Monvigliero 2016 in the top 5 after having tried the 2017 Burlotto horizontal recently. It was wonderful so I can only imagine how good the 2016 is and hope that same friend will open one for me in the future.
