Well done, Howard. Two of my favorites. Although I don't drink much port anymore. Smith Woodhouse always seems to hit.

6x2014 VCC for me. Couldn't help myself. Pre-buying freeze

A case of Montrose 2005. My final purchase of 2020. Weighing the actuarial risk, it seemed a good plan.

12 x 2020 Vajra Nebbiolo Langhe
12 x 2016 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino
12 x 2018 Felsina Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia

I have my eye on a few Bordeaux wines. But I think they will be more readily available early next year when so many BWE'ers will be on a buying freeze. :)

Might want to see if you can find 2019 Palmer. Not quite at its $225 opening price, it seems to be available at around $270, not a price you are likely to see again for a great vintage of Palmer.

Picked up a case of the 2015 Clerc Milon from Suburban Wines for $59.41/btl + tax after the 15% case discount as it seemed like a no brainer.

Well done.

Technical Note: Announcing this type of sagacious, wheelin’-and-dealin’ steal is all well and good for now, but as of January 1st, when the Great 2022 Wine Buying Freeze begins, such commentary will only get a “very well done, indeed” when the great deal is passed over.

Good point, but isn’t 2015 too mature for the BD? He wants a little primary fruit in his claret! 8-)

Re: So what have you bought lately?

So in todays edition of ‘if it is too good to be true, it probably is’. On my way home from work today, I drove up to Yorktown Heights to pick up my score and when the cashier brought over my wine I immediately noticed that it was not what I was expecting as it was the 2nd wine in the Pastourelle de Clerc Milon which for $59.41/btl is definitively not a deal. So I walked over to the new owner (and previous store manager) and informed him that the wine that I got was not the wine that was advertised on the website. He took a look, agreed and apologized profusely for both the mis-listing on the website as well as the fact that they did not catch this earlier when pulling my order. He gladly refunded me and while we were chatting, ended up gifting me a bottle of 2019 Fontaine Gagnard Bourgogne Rouge for my wasted trip which I thought was a nice touch.

Champagne mainly:
1 x Delamotte
1 x Roederer Brut
1 x Larmandier Bernier Terre Vertus 1er Cru Brut Nature 2014
2 x Geoffroy Blanc de Blancs Brut 1er Cru 'Volupté' 2010

As well as 3 red Burgundies from 2014:
1 x Lechenaut Vosne Romanee
1 x Maison Roche Bellene Volnay VV
1 x Domaine Rossignol-Fevrier Volnay Robardelle 1er Cru

Only Bordeaux I would buy are older, pre 2000. I decided I just don't enjoy newer ones much and have no room to age them anyway
Best

You know, Jacques, I uncorked a 2015 Gruaud Larose a while back and it was just so uninteresting.
Technically correct and all that, but just not interesting.
There are some exceptions in the newer generation of Bordeaux, but for the most part modern Bordeaux just doesn't hold a candle to the stuff from the 80s.

I placed this order with my Polaner rep last Thursday for a mixed case of the current 2020 Gerard Boulay single vineyard Sancerres in the Clos de Beaujeu (4), Les Monts Damnes (4) and La Cote (4) but they arrived today. And for those of you wondering, the Comtesse is released at a later date.

Score! It’s a good thing I can’t get these in the low $40s or my buying freeze would experience an abrupt and unceremonious end.

Last day of the year before buying freeze I bought:

2x 2002 Piper Rare(Finally able to backfill at a reasonable price)
3x 2008 Rene Geoffrey Terre Extra Brut(Very good price compared to rest of the market)

Definitely on a champagne kick of late. Interesting to see my tastes change with these too.

I bought some assorted Magdelaine including a bottle of the 1980 which I have never seen let alone tasted. Big purchase was a case of 1996 Montrose, which was really a trade rather than an outright purchase.

Roagna doesn’t get a lot of chatter — but it must appreciated quietly given the prices it fetches these days — but it is well and truly one of my favorite Nebbiolos. It has to be top 5 or 6 overall for me, and more like top 2 or 3 if including only Piedmontese wines I get to drink with any regularity (eg Monfortino is not something I cross paths with).

I feel like that there is a lot of that happening with 'Segla'.

In my mind, the estate should have significantly different name for that bottling.

Long run, if customers realize they have been duped, it does enduring brand damage.

And given that the Chanel people are all about luxury branding, one would think they ought to care.

Mea culpa, mea culpa. I have failed.

On the other hand, I've started a new freeze!
