Two syrah, an unexpected result...

Post by Nicklasss »

Saturday night, after the 2018 Capbern experience, I did not expect that!

A well-made The Deal Sundance syrah 2014 from K Vintners, well concentrated but not too much, which gives a lot, ripe red fruits, smoky raspberries, minerals, well integrated wood, a light touch of jerky beef with sweet vanilla oak, but everything remains balanced , with good drinkability. Tn: 91-92.

The Blonde du Seigneur de Vernay 2015 tempted me a lot. Especially, coming from one of my favorite appellations, Côte Rôtie... and very light tart cherries, very light, acid, too light. A little pepper but really too simple. It's drinkable, but for twice the price of the Washington State Syrah, very squeaky, squeaky, squeaky... a bottle of the same wine opened about 1.5 years ago was better, but closed and not giving too much. Very atypical for 2015 which seems to me to be a hot vintage... Tn: 85.

That's also wine: full of surprises, and you learn all the time.

Thanks for the note on the Washington state Syrah, Nic. I've been trying a few Washington wines, and most of them seem to be good quality for the price.
