2005 Domaine Pierre Gelin Gevrey-Chambertin Clos de Meixvelle...
... de la Lous Lamour a la de tour de la....
Uncorked this in reminiscence of a Burgundy lover by the name of Ben "Whuzzup" Nelson....
He was fully possessed by about 2004, his soul forever lost thereafter....
Last I heard he was drinking beer in Chicago or some such place....

I think this is what they call a village wine?
It doesn't seem to have faded much, a testament to the 2005 Burgundy vintage... the greatest vintage, from any wine region... ever.

Can just imagine a couple of old England blokes sitting around drinking ‘good old bally Gerry - Chambertin, jolly good stuff this is’

This was delicious!
I did not have high expectations but then again I should not be surprised, 2005 Burgundy never let’s me down.
This is a solid 90 points.

I always read that 2002 was the king of fairly recent red burg vintages not to knock 2005.

I think that both 2002 and 2005 were considered excellent vintages in Burgundy. I think the 2005s might be a bit "bigger" than the 2002s. But I have had no problem enjoying either vintage.

I have had very good luck with any 2005's that are ready to drink so far. I've definitely had a few 1er crus that have underperformed. But they probably just aren't ready.

I have not heard of a bad vintage in Burgundy (for reds) in years.
1999 and 2005 are too tight and need time though 1999 is much better lately.
2004 was considered green, the wines I drunk the last 3-4 years have shed their green meanies and are fine.
2007 was supposedly weak, every wine I had from that vintage was delicious
2015 is riper than most but go with good producers and you won't be disappointed.
Village level is great for all vintages.
1er Cru is ready to drink for most vintages
Grand Cru I can't afford anymore anyway

I agree with Jacques except that I have had a less good experience with 2007 Burgundy.
As for 2002 versus 2005, I thought the 2002s were much better young than the 2005s and now even 1er Cru 2002 are mostly mature. I let my 2005s continue to sleep except for an occasional test to see how they are coming along.
At long last some 1999 1er Crus are unwound and pleasing, but even those are still on the upswing.
