Trials and tribulations....

Post by JimHow »

Closing arguments tomorrow morning....
Winona, are you in the state yet? I'm going to uncork some high alcohol, spoofilated St. Emilion after this trial.
They don't get easier the older I get....

Even spoofilated wine is too weak for this one. It calls for everclear.

If this crime occurred in Mexico, why is it being tried in the USA?

I wish he WERE being tried in Mexico...
Actually, the evidence came in well for the defense.
I reamed the police chief a new one today.
I really, really hate cops who lie.
If I can beat the attempted murder charge I don't care about the lesser stuff.
A case like this makes me want to turn to whiskey.

What a strange case.

I guess that what you need after that trial, is not a spoofilated Saint Émilion or whisky, but a too concentrated, too ripe, too alcoholic 2018 red Bordeaux.

Reading the newspaper account makes it sound like a crazy situation. Was the defendant already intoxicated before any of the alleged acts? Or is he just a little "off kilter"?

My Glaucons....
As you should know by now, you should never rely on what you read in the newspaper.
Closing arguments tomorrow morning, sitting here finalizing my argument...
I'll let you know when I have a verdict!

Best of luck on another tough case, Jim. I'll be curious to see how this pans out.

Jury out less than an hour.
Not guilty on attempted murder, guilty on lesser charges.
I'm relieved. We got the acquittal on the main charge.

What was this case? I didn't see anything about this on the board - did I miss a thread?

Congrats. Sounds like it’s time for some 2010 Troplong Mondot. Happy to open one of mine with you if you make it down to DC! I will make Marcus try it with us though.

The fact pattern described in the newspaper article makes it look like you pulled off a miracle by getting him acquitted on the attempted murder charge Jim!

In other news, your hair is evolving to be quite something. You appear to have almost a mane at this point. Maybe time to enter your late career "lion of justice" phase and take on some William Kunstler type cases.

Yeah I had to work some extra magic in this one.
Three more people charged with murder have asked me to represent them this week. This is getting insane.
I like the 2010 Troplong idea Joel. I’m going to regroup for a day or two, this trial really back me up schedule wise, I don’t know whether I’m coming or going.

Didn't you stop taking new clients a while back?

No worries at all, that was an open ended offer of course. Could always wait until BWE 2022, wherever/whenever that is.

Yeah it's going to be tough for me to retire next year Joel.
My client dodged a big bullet today.
He's going to basically get a time-served sentence for the stuff on which he was convicted.
Had he been convicted on attempted murder he was looking at 10-15 years.
Very stressful stuff, sipping on a 2009 Giscours to chill out.

Congratulations Jim.

Joel, Jim stops taking murder cases like I stop buying Bordeaux. With all the practice we’ve had, we should be pretty good at it by now.

Congratulations Jim on another amazing success

Reading the article your client didn’t have a prayer

You really are a legend

Excess demand for your services can be resolved and rationed via the price mechanism so you can drink more first growths.

Can always count on David to put complicated things into simple terms that I'll understand. I second Ian's point then. Mitigate the stress with some rewards!

Hope that 2009 Giscours did the trick. Sounds like your type of wine.

all right, all right, you got someone acquitted of attempted murder, but tell us the important news -- how was the 2009 Giscours? I am sitting on a couple of bottles of that, so this is very relevant to me, in contrast to attempted murder -- not planning to commit that any time soon.

Ex long term girlfriend.
I don’t know how I pulled that one off.
The Giscours was what you might expect, big and rich. It needs at least another blanquito. I think I have four bottles left, I’m going to hold them for a while. This was a BWE wine of the year. It is one of those wines that you might consider “modern” but not for the wrong reasons, I don’t think they altered anything in the wine making, they just took advantage of modern techniques. This is a beautiful wine, it just needs more time.

OK, interesting news re the Giscours. 2009 is an interesting vintage, I'm not sure the final verdict is in on it yet. It's hard to tell whether the overt fruit conceals more classical bones that will emerge with time, or what exactly will happen. It is hedonistic but to me in most cases has not come across as unbalanced.

If I DO decide to commit attempted murder, I know who to call!

The 2009 Giscours is like a Cantemerle on steroids. Earthy, Margaux nose that was shy at first and slowly emerged.

A Giscours that needs more time.

That has a familiar ring to it.

But in this case what is remarkable

1) From the 2009 vintage
2) From the BD who likes them young

I will let my case sleep on - this wine gets reviewed favourably on CT

Having tasted both ‘09 and ‘10 recently, my preference is for the ‘10, and by same margin. For me, 2010 in Margaux is rather special, and two of my favorite wines Giscours and Palmer excelled that year. Even Palmer’s second wine Alter Ego is wonderful.
