TN: Roc De Cambes, Cotes De Bourg, 1995

Post by Comte Flaneur »

I have never tried one of these...deep garnet, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, olives, mineral, smoke and charcoal; quite a promising attack; but quite dusty, in fact plenty of old cobwebs. More charcoal and plums and then some candy and menthol notes with a bit of VA. On the palate it is not smooth with some old unresolved brawny tannins, and what fruit it had has faded. It tastes a bit dried out, and tastes even more so over time. Enjoyable, but not a great wine: drink up if you have any any. It is a long way behind the lovely 1996 Tertre Rote Boeuf (same owner), and many leagues behind the 1989 and 1998 TRBs. Quite a fun wine but on this showing a bit over-priced and over-rated.

I only ever had the '99 and that was drunk around '05. At the time, it was very nice. Smooth, silky right bank style wine. Around $25 or so.

This is generally a good wine, but it is about twice as expensive as the next most expensive Côtes de Bourg.

this wine doesn't make old bones.

i've enjoyed the 1998 a lot, but it needs to be consumed now.

This wine is well-worth something in the low to mid $20s, when you can find it priced as such.
