2014 Malescot St. Exupery

Post by JimHow »

This was lovely last night, margauxberries, an appealing earthiness, nice balance. A little sweet in the first sips but it rounded out. I have seven bottles left, I'll give them another five years and they should be about at peak. Drinking beautifully now though. Deep purple/ruby Margaux color. 92 points.

Well done Jim....Orlando Bobby has been preaching the quality of this vintage.

I recently picked up the '95 Malescot..I also have a Malescot birth yr. '10 for my daughter Jett and an '06 for my son Cage...there is a '12 lurking around too. Bobby thinks Malescot is a bit too new world, but I have not found it overly so...though truth is, I have not tasted many recent vintages of Malescot.

It may indeed be a touch modern, but not overwhelmingly so.

I've only had a few vintages but that was my general impression too.

More times than not, there is simply too much new oak used for my liking.

My main experience with Malescot is the 2009 and 2015 and I also found it to be over the top modernist. The 09 was actually pretty delicious young but didn’t age well

I'm happy to have bought four bottles of the 2014. 3 down, one to go. No experience with other vintages.

I had one of the 14 Malescot's a year and a half ago. Was quite tight then, good to see it's opening up.
