Domaine La Roquete 2004
An elegantly styled and balanced Chateauneuf du Pape which is drinking quite well now but will hit its peak with a few more years of age. Just barely opaque ruby color. Pretty nose with strawberry and some spice, clearly a CNdP - I want to say mulderberry or something like that but I don't really know what they smell like. But you get the idea, those rich, ripe Chateauneuf-berries or whatever they are. Medium bodied with more spice and red fruits plus kirsch and other CNdP like fruits on the palate. Some tannins still present with some on the long finish. More in the red fruit/elegant style than the black fruit/earthy/bruiser style of some CNdPs. Great balance, with no excess of acidity. Some might call this a "Burgundian" style of CNdP. Gets more and more elegant and tasty with time and a nice shell steak. Excellent with food. A great value. It would be interesting to try the 2005 of this wine which is supposed to be excellent, as well.

THX for the note Chris. Indeed a very nice wine. The whites from Roquete are among the best in CdP. Try to find their new red cuvee l'Accent, very profound and complex wine....

Indeed Pappa, since late 80s the Brunier brothers Daniel and Frederic are owners of Roquete (former named Roquette). Very good terroir close to Rayas, reds are very interesting and the whites are among the best in CdP.

They have the 2007 Chateauneuf blanc at Garnet. Plus the '05 rouge. The basic wines. They also have a sale through 2/22.

The 2005 sells for $29.99 and is drinking very well. It was #41 on the Speculators top 100 for 2007. It's one of the best drinking 05 CDPs I've tried. A no brainer at that price.
