Dear Valued Customer,
Oh dear, what's called 1st tranche of Lynch Bages has sold through in minutes @ $108. What a pity you didn't buy any. But it's OK, because we just happened to get some more, it's called the 2nd tranche. Don't worry, 2nd does mean second wine, or even second place. In fact, it's identical to the 1st tranche. And, in fact, there's plenty of wine left, something like 99% of supply, and we can let you have some for the very advantageous price of $133. But act now, because supplies are limited.
Sincerely,
The Bordeaux System

"La Mission Haut-Brion has made so many great wines over the last 100 years, it would be stupid to say the 2009 somehow exceeds this estate-s great classics, such as 1929, 1945, 1949, 1953, 1955, 1959, 1961, 1982, 1989, 1990, 1998, 2000, or 2005. Certainly it will take its place in the pantheon of all the great La Mission Haut-Brions ever made. There are 6,000 cases of it, made from a blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc. The natural alcohol hit 14.7%, which far exceeds the perfect wines of 1982, 1989 and 1990. Opaque purple in color, with an extraordinary nose of blueberry liqueur intermixed with camphor, charcoal, hints of burning embers and truffles, and loads of black berry and black currant fruit, the wine has sublime concentration and purity, a finish that goes well past 60 seconds, and not a hard edge to be found in this sumptuous, almost over-the-top, full-bodied wine of enormous power and massive density and richness. An immortal effort, it should drink well for 50-100 years! (Tasted once.)"
(98-100 points) Robert Parker
(95-97 points) Neal Martin
(96 points) Tim Atkin MW
(94-97 points) James Suckling, Wine Spectator
(19/20) Decanter
(18.5-19) Michael Schuster
Parker has introduced a * in his scoring. This denotes a wine that according to Parker "had the finest potential of all the offerings I had ever tasted from that estate in nearly 32 years of barrel tasting samples in Bordeaux."
Please note that on certain wines we can offer alternative formats charged at cost. Half bottles and magnums at a premium of £15 a case and double magnums at a premium of £65 a case. Jeroboams and imperials, where available, are offered at a premium of £30 and £35 per unit respectively.
All wine is priced ex-London City Bond and will be delivered in 2012.

That's about $800/btl US for La Miss. I don't care how good it is.

Ducru has just opened to UK buyers at c£2100 in bond. A few principled UK merchants have told them to - er - have declined their allocation.

If I buy anything I'm buying Lacoste Borie (2nd of Lacoste)and Capbern Gasqueton (owned by Calon Segur) at c£170 and £140 in bond respectively. These are apparently old-style dry and minerally in this very ripe year.

Re: any bets on 09 prices?
I can't imagine anything remaining to be released from here on will be inexpensive, so I've tuned out of looking at the emails of new releases. There were very few, if any, fair prices based on historical pricing. From a producer standpoint, the release prices seemed very well coordinated, so I imagine there was a lot of back room talk (nothing illegal of course, I'm sure they are very well counseled on anti-trust) on pricing.
What amazes me is to see consumers speculate based on whether they think RP will give something 100 points, trying to read into his reviews to see what might appreciate if given a 100 point score. This is like wagering......but in this campaign I think the prices are stacked against the consumer (and investors) that there will be price appreciation.....much like 2005 (post recession), 2006, and 2007.

Re: any bets on 09 prices?
This is almost as ridiculous as the La Mission Haut Brion pricing:
2009 Le Clarence du Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival)
90-93* Points (RP)
90-93 Points (WS)
Wine House Price: $139.99
