99 versus 00 Bordeaux: which is performing better?

Post by tim »

Ok, that seems like a question that can be answered easily.

What I'm really asking is: 99 versus 00 WHITE Bordeaux: which is performing better?

I recall that the 99 Haut Brion Blanc was absolutely otherworldly. When recently in a retailer, I found he had two different vintages of Pape Clement Blanc: 99 and 00. Of which the 00 was slightly more expensive, but I wasn't overly confident that the 00 would be worth the premium. Any experience with either this particular wine, or the 99/00 whites in general?

The second bottle of my 1999 Haut Brion Blanc I opened two years ago was pre-moxed. Frankly, and with the exception of Sauternes, I would not be tempted to buy any white Bordeaux or Burgundy from the vintages of 1995-2004.

jal,

You're so dead wrong!! Seems to me that you didn't do your homework.

2001 and 2002 vintages are for white Bordeaux some of the finest ones, especially 2002. Try f.i. D.d.Chevalier.

I'm with you, Jacques. Aging white dry Bdx, like aging white Burgundy, is not worth the risk until they solve the promox problem.

Where to begin?
So many theories were put forth. To begin you could read the following: http://oxidised-burgs.wikispaces.com/

I'll try to dig out more later

This is not an assignment and I'm not here to do research. I am giving my own opinion based on my own experience. If people choose to ignore it, I am not offended, if people attack it based on the fact that my opinion is not valid, I will defend it.
