Jancis on 2009 Crus Bourgeois
Jancis on 2009 Crus Bourgeois
Glowing report from Jancis Robinson -- she and Julia Harding rate many of the 190 wines they tasted 16 pts or higher and a few as high as 17 pts. Personally I'm looking forward to trying as many of these as possible.
"The Delights of 2009 Crus Bourgeois
The Médoc's Crus Bourgeois represent the best of the non-classified growths... The just-announced selection of 2009s are some of the best value wines to have come out of Bordeaux. Ever. The super-ripe, healthy, plump style of this vintage suits some of these less favoured terroirs down to the ground - a bit like the way some of the Côte d'Or's less glamorous villages come into their own in exceptionally warm vintages there.
The wines vary in style, as one would hope and expect, but there are very few examples in which alcohol, oak or sweetness dominate...
...when the grapes are fully ripe and the wine is well made, these 2009 crus bourgeois can rival all but the best classed growths - at substantially lower prices - and they are much, much more winning than the 2008s ... looked at a year ago."

lots of good, inexpensive 09s out there
Re: Jancis on 2009 Crus Bourgeois
I wonder if it will be the same or similar for 2010?

There is a ban on 2010, Bacchus.
Does anyone know how the Burghound ranks 2009 Jadot 1er Cru and 2009 Jadot Clos des Ursules?

Isn't the ban on 2010 just for the classified growths, Jim?

I think the 2010 ban appllies to all Bordeux priced over $30.
Re: Jancis on 2009 Crus Bourgeois
I still have too many 2005s that appear to have quite a bit of life to them to buy heavily into 2009 Crus Bourgeois, but have dipped my toe in with small quantities, and if you like the lower acid style there are some good ones.
I'm paying slightly more attention to 2009 Bourgognes, just to try a broad array of producers.
As I look out my window at the airport, across the street is a huge assembly of news media satellite dish vans, apparently waiting for the word from Amanda Knox as she arrives.

I haven't bought any 2010s Jim, neither as futures nor as real bottles. But since Jancis was describing non-classified growths, I was hoping that some of those might be in the under $30 range. And thus, perhaps, the situation would also apply to 2010. Hope burns eternal. ![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)
