Steve Jobs, revolution, and wine

Just saw that Steve Jobs has died.

My brother Tom sent me a quote from one of my favorite Steve Cockburn songs on revolution.

They're marching in the streets in New York and Washington...

I saw a little tent city this morning as I walked into the county courthouse in Portland.

Sipping on some 2008 d'Issan again, want to confirm whether I like is as much as I thought I did.

We live in uneasy times....

Revolution is in the air....

Gee whiz, why SHOULDN'T d'Issan charge fifty bucks for this wine?
For a suppoedly good-but-not-great vintage, this wine is nonetheless compelling.
A beauty!
I agree Chris, I'm sure I'll like 2009 better than 2008, just like I liked the best vintage of the last century-- 2000-- better than the best vintage (up to this point) of this century-- 2002L.
But the 2008 d'Issan is nonetheless a lovely wine! Upgraded from last night's 91 points to HWSRN's 92.

Can't believe the news about Jobs. I bought my first Mac in 1985. If I recall, it had 256k of RAM, 2 floppy drives, and no hard drive! I continue to use Macs, typing this posting on my new MacBook. With his death we have lost an amazing techno-developer. May he rest in peace.

Just wondering, are the '08s more or less costly than the '06s? (sorry, no 08s on the shelves up here yet)

A little more expensive, Bachhus, but still rationally priced. $50 for '08 d'Issan seems like a rational price to me.

$50 down there means it'll be something like $85 up here. I guess that's a less rational price than $50, but when you live up here you just get used to a stretched definition of "rational." Then again, there's no revolution in the air up here either. In sympathy with the situation in NYC, I could get my old Bob Dylan albums out. I think the following are the appropriate lyrics:

I watched O'bama on tv earlier today. He seems intent on getting some sort of jobs bill passed, and levelling out the tax system a bit. As they say, it's a start.

These Wall Street protests will peter out. But it is inevitable. I figure it will probably take about 20 years, but it is just a matter of time. In the end it will probably be violent. In the end, there are just too many poor people, too many living in daily desperation. In the end the super rich will fall. It is inevitable. The poor don't have much, but the one thing we do have is time. Time is on our side.

Maybe not, Jim. Yesterday I heard the results of a poll done by American Express of their premium card holders: blacks, platinums etc.: everyone polled earning 6 figures or more. 65% of these people, apparently, agreed that their federal taxes should increase!! Interesting, n'est-ce pas?
