The 2009 aroma comes forcefully out of the bottle, and then calms down. This is ripe, warm, seems like a fair amount of glycerin. Showing mostly dark plum flavors, This is a nice young QPR. Very little tannins poking through.
The 2005 is open. With a mix of purple and red fruits. Young and vibrant, but also showing some rounding and softness. There's noticeably more lift on the finish here.
The 2005 and 2009 Haut-Surget have been uncorked

Jono,
I have visited this estate several times. I think you've described it aptly, especially the quality/price ratio. This is relatively rich, fruity, upfront wine.
I'm a member of the Lalande de Pomerol vinous brotherhood.
I think the appellation is pretty much a well-kept secret.
Yes, there are wines that are more on a level with Bx./Bx. Sup., but the best are like minor Pomerols with a much lower price tag...
Best regards,
Alex R.
