Chateau d'Agassac 2005 Haut-Medoc Cru Bourgeois Superior

I always wanted to try this wine, I think because WS gave the 2000 a great review. Well, it's a nice wine, no doubt.
Opaque purple color. Earthy at first, charcoal, liquorice, currants, spice and some leather and a hint of tobacco on the nose, plus saline later. Full bodied. Sweet tannins. Ripe fruit which is hard to place, darker than cherry, just very nice. Good balancing acidity. Very good finish. Some milk chocolate later. Definitely a 2005 styled wine. Not exactly cheap, I think I paid around $25 for this at Zachy's almost five years ago! I just wanted to try it. Great label! Definitely a Bordeaux wine. Probably some would find it a bit modern, but in a good way. No over alchohol or gooeyness. Just a good, solid left bank wine (albiet with 50% merlot!) that seems to be staying the course as a member of the brotherhood...

Interesting. I've not had the 2005, but Chasse's TN would be how I recall the 2000 vintage that I had a couple of times at release. A consistent producer.

Passive storage. Still, I would look for this wine. Very nice, indeed.
