I agree with Tom, why don't we just stick with our original plan of 20 in the private room at Dino.

Ok. Dean, if you're still checking, please go ahead with menu ideas for 20 in the private room.

Hopefully we can come up with a "+/- $100 per" accommodation. Dean won't want to leave the private room unoccupied, right? :-))))

I will take paypal but pls add the fee-3 or 4%. I think we're at 19 so we can take 1 more. Deaqn serves family style.

That's been proposed and the menu I posted reflects those choices but bring any full bodied red you possess. Also, Dean has a great, fairly priced Italian (and other regions) list if you want to order a bottle instead.

Our check is in the mail too, mr. vino!

We're in for an Italian theme, but could certainly work with a Rhone one.

If I recall correctly, there are two big tables in Dino's private room. How about if we poll for a theme between Rhone and Italian? If interest is about balanced, we could have two tables, each with a theme? Gail and I could "host" the Italian table to coordinate wines, etc.

Check's going in tomorrow's mail, Jay. Thank you for your efforts, this should be a lot of fun!

Tom, as much as I like 'ya, I'm bringing a Rhone. If that means I'm relegated to the kiddie table, so be it.

BD:

Please don't insult my 50% heritage!

You may not know it, but many Italian wines come with the bottles wrapped in pretty staw baskets and these have been very good candlestick holders after using the wine for cooking or on salad.

Mr Vino:

I need your instructions on what to bring: Italian or Rhone?

I have already shipped my wines for the weekend from San Francisco to DC and don't have access to my cellar there for anything else. I only have 2 bottles (respectable) of each Italian and Rhone here in Dubai that I can bring.

Kiddie table or adults? Thanks.

Either will work. But if you want an answer, bring the Rhone.

As for tables, I'm not sure segregating the regions is preferable but we could make each table half and half. Of course, we will be close to one another so sharing bottles won't be a problem.

Hi:

Susan and I are also planning to dine at Dino's.
But close friends are taking the time to drive down and meet us Friday.
We've not seen each other in a while and there wasn't room to include our friends.
So we released our slots (which were filled from the wait list) and will be booking a private table and ordering from the menu.
And we will be drinking some great Barolos as my buddy believes Burgundy rules and there is no great Barolo.

We've discussed options with Jay.
And this will work fine.
We can get a table near.
And we'll be busy catching up.

Now my freind is Alan Marshok.
He was a part of owner Rochambeau and then Post wine.
He is currently working for a small firm importing Burgundy.
He is a "gem" of a guy and his wife Donna is a "doll".
A great person to get to know and has been ITB for many many years.
Great palate, great stories from an insider and wonderful personality.
We can mingle but I'm fine with the arrangement and hope to get in on "no corkage".

I'm fine with it.
And Jay has done a wonderful job lining up a venue.
I just wanted to explain if y'all saw us what was up.
And I really have wanted Alan to meet this group for a long time.

And the last time the four of us dined in DC it was at Citronelle so we are getting off easy.

So nothing to get all worked up about.

Jay has done a great job, and I'm not "getting all worked up about it." I just think it is bullshit that a guy we have given thousands of dollars of repeat business to can't help us out in accomodating a couple extra friends we see once every several years or so.

Understood.
And I wasn't implying you.
Just in general.
Plus I don't want to share any Scavino/Clerico/Sandrone. HAHAHAHAHA
But then you know me I always share.

Jon and Paula Northway will be joining us. I had a lengthy email exchange with the Daytons-they are fine with all of this as they wanted to catch up with their friends. 20 people in the private room is its limit. I plan a trip to dino to check out the space before the dinner so I think it will all work out.

I agree that both camps can be good -- I was just sorta wondering if these producers are the ones to convince a diehard burg-o-phile.

Ok, I just deposited all the checks from those who were able to pay in advance-thanks for your promptness. Now, onto the important things: what wines are people bringing? Theme is loosely Rhones and Italians but if anyone wants to throw in a ringer-throw away! DavidG and I plan to bring some NV champagne to kick things off. Should we have some whites as well?
