Can a champagne be perfect?

Post by sdr »

  • 1985 Krug Champagne Clos du Mesnil - France, Champagne, Le Mesnil Sur Oger, Champagne (3/24/2012)
Juhlin is right - there is no better wine, and certainly no better champagne, than Krug Clos du Mesnil. From its beautiful light golden color to its persistent perlage of tiny bubbles to its lingering, almost sweet, finish, this is perfection in mature champagne. There's an infinite variety of fragrance and flavors, including apricot , melon, hazelnuts, dried fruit skins, brown butter and deep caramel, there's more in each sniff and each sip than before. No deterioration over 2 hours. Obviously at its glorious peak and can't possible improve. (100 pts.)

Stuart is the tough grading Steve Tanzer of BWE, I don't think I've ever seen a hundred pointer from him.
