A flash knockout one minute and 40 seconds into the first round. D'Armailhac came out fighting but was quickly overpowered. Was it the vintage or was it the estate?

Good question. Guess you'll have to try the '05 D'Armailhac vs the '02 Lanessan to find out. Or all 4 of them together in a tag-team match. In a cage...

Fruit tends to win when wines are young, so I am not surprised. I expect the '02s to improve over time and become quite complex. Having said that, I doubt that '02 will ever surpass '05.

Lanessan, despite its modest price, is a very good estate IMO even if I rank D'Armailhac higher.
