Has anybody bought 2011s?
Has anybody bought 2011s?
The en primeur releases are near drawing to a close, and I have not purchased a single bottle. The prices seem high (in most cases exceeding 2005 and not far away from 2009), especially for the quality, and while there are lower end wines that seem like reasonable values, they are not values if they need to be purchased 2 or more years in advance of arrival.
Did anybody here buy something?

No. I'm amused though at the headline "Sanity Returns to Bordeaux Pricing."

I agree...Houndsong wrote:No. I'm amused though at the headline "Sanity Returns to Bordeaux Pricing."
Sanity?....Sanity my A$$... I could get 2005 Haut Bailly for $77 recently and today I received an offer for 2011 Haut Bailly priced at $80...
Re: Has anybody bought 2011s?
I bought 3 lonely bottles of Chateau Calon-Segur, only because I bought some 2008-2009-2010.
I don't plan to buy any other 2011 as ''future''.

I bought three lonely bottles of 200-NINE Calon Segur, that's all I've purchased post 2008.

Re: Has anybody bought 2011s?
Bordeaux and its pricing has become silly and grotesque. Screw them.
Re: Has anybody bought 2011s?
Anyone bought 2010 for that matter?...
I'm done (and have largely been done since the 2005 vintage) with new releases from Bordeaux (and pretty much everywhere). Got enough wine anyway, so the Bordelais did me a favor with such outrageous pricing, made it easy.

Re: Has anybody bought 2011s?
Jim, I thought you were high on '09s. Waiting for on-the-shelf prices? I stocked up but I like the ripe style of '09 more than you do.
I bought zero in '10. Might buy if prices actually do return to earth, but they are still in orbit.
I bought zero in '11 and doubt I'll be interested in those wines even at fire sale prices. Call me a vintage-whore if you must but when the occasion calls for a $30 wine I'd rather drink an '09 than an '11.

Yeah, I'm trying to get myself up for buying some 2009s, David.
I'll probably buy 50-100 bottles. I see the NH store says they are about to start releasing 2009s. There was a time when we looked forward to these releases with anticipation/obsession, but no more.

Re: Has anybody bought 2011s?
No 2011 here. No 2010, either.
Re: Has anybody bought 2011s?
No 2011, no 2010, and not even any 2009s (at least not so far)! I will stock up on 2008 (I hear it's very 2002L like). Otherwise I will continue back filling with 04s and 06s, and when I want a riper vintage, 05s.

Folks
I DID buy 2010 but don't forget the currency has affected US prices and the $A and even $S have appreciated in recent yearws thus lessening the pain.
Not bought a single 2011 and I can't see much reason to bother.
I have bought a lot of 09s and they are for me the wines to buy along with 2005 and 2000.
cheers
Mark

Re: Has anybody bought 2011s?
The 2009 release in NH is a state secret that I have only luke warm interest in due to the anticipated pricing. What may turn out to be interesting is if NH is still sitting on some stocks of older vintages they may try and blowout at the same time like they did with the 2006 and 2007 releases.
I'm amused by the sales pitches in trying to push the 2011's by highlighting the fact that they are priced from 20-30% below the 2010 prices. Really??? Not to mention 2010 is grossly overpriced to start with and the 2011 quality is only a fraction of the preceding 2 vintages.
My only hope of buying Bordeaux post 2008 is that the pricing results in a huge glut on the market and we see a significant correction. If not, I'll get more serious about other regions like Spanish Rioja.

Re: Has anybody bought 2011s?
Do you have any gossip on the NH release, Gerry?
Re: Has anybody bought 2011s?
I've been talking to a couple of the guys in the Exit 6 store in Nashua lately and they've been telling me how tight lipped Concord has been regarding the release dates and pricing. Even they are frustrated by it all. It gives me the impression that they are taking the position that they are sitting on a stack of gold and will be pricing it accordingly. My only hope is they focus their greed on the top tier classified growths and allow a few lower tiers and Cru's to slip thru.

2009 is a top vintage just about everywhere in France - Burgundy, Rhone also excellent.
Drinking a young but delicious Hermitage. Yum!

Re: Has anybody bought 2011s?
Neither 2011 nor 2010 purchases for me, apart from 2010 Lamothe Cissac VV. I've close to 750 bottlers in my cellar and I'll be 66 years old by the end of this year. No need to buy big, some few bottles here and there after bottling. I might however buy one bottle each of Tertre Roteboeuf 2009-2010-2011, just to compare.
