TN: baby Barbaresco.

Post by JonoB »

2010 Langhe Nebbiolo; Az. Agr. Fratelli Cigliuti di Cigliuti Renato; Neive
smoke, cherry, plum, earth, tar, some damsons and floral notes, herbs, roses, rosebush, much deeper and darker than in Italy, but this was popped and poured. Fresh, balanced and holding up against the spicy food. Herbs, rosemary and pure red fruited elegance and the initial tannic finish has moved more to herbs, roses and dark cherry. Salt, salinity, seaweed, grass and sandstone. This will most certainly improve into a very decent baby Barbaresco. Good length that is pleasantly zippy and persistent. Unashamedly modern but deceptively elegant and moreish. Impressive and with youthful depth and poise. Well it is young vine Serraboella!! 65-68+/100

Please explain your number system as it doesn't seem to relate in any fashion to your notes.

Jono Beagle's hundred point scoring system.
0-29/100 not worth bothering with
30-49/100 good wine but I wouldn't buy a case
50-59/100 very good showing grape and terroir character
60-69/100 excellent example of a wine from this country/region/grape
70-85/100 one of the very best wines that the region has to offer.
86-100/100 one of the very best wines you are ever likely to drink

On day 2, this is spicy, perfumed, mineral and long with dark cherry, plum, salinity, graphite, coffee beans, tobacco leaf, tar and rosebush. Raspberry, and a silky smooth elegance. Softening and becoming more svelt and appealing. 68++/100

Day 3 and this is complex, dusty, salty, with seaweed, underbrush, stems, blueberries, tar, classic dusty tannins with chocolate/truffle dusted cherry, mushroom, herbs, decaying leaves, white truffle, sand, red brick, complex, medicinal, balanced and fresh, haunting and beguiling; really beginning to sing, raspberry and strawberry seed. 71/100
