TN: a mix of good and indifferent!!

2010 Savigny-les-Beaunes 1er Cru "Cuvée Arthur Girard, 150th Anniversary Bottle", Domaine des Hospices de Beaune
rich, round, cherry, minerals and a touch of funk, almost feels unripe in places and slightly mildewed, a shame that the oak and rot is prominent because there is some class being hidden by it. Herbs, saline, cherry, grass, raw strawberry... If it weren't made by someone it would have been excellent and there is class there but it feels watery and a touch rotten and oaky, that reduces the pleasure of something that should have been super. 56-60/100

2007 Loire Sauvignon Blanc; David Levin
grass, herbs, almonds and nuts, lemon, lime, gooseberry, simple with some nice development but still youthful. Marble, slate... A touch of chalk. Ripe and fairly expressive... Nice. 61+/100

2011 Sauvignon Blanc; Apello: Marlborough, NZ
lemons, limes, gooseberry, grass, herbs, hemp, decent perfume and nice length, is it better than other examples? Probably not, is it balanced, concentrated, fresh enough and easy to drink? Definitely. Some decent marble minerality. 59-61/100

2006 Barbera d'Asti "Rugé"; Crissante Allesandria
soft, mushroom, chocolate, plum, cocoa, rich but with a soft dusty red fruited mineral streak starting to break through. Subtlety and length is starting to replace the youthful power of this wine. Tobacco, dried herbs, hay, soil, earth, sous bois. Super and still with something in hand to develop for another 2-3 years. 69-71/100

Jono Beagle's hundred point scoring system.
0-29/100 not worth bothering with
30-49/100 good wine but I wouldn't buy a case
50-59/100 very good showing grape and terroir character
60-69/100 excellent example of a wine from this country/region/grape
70-85/100 one of the very best wines that the region has to offer.
86-100/100 one of the very best wines you are ever likely to drink
