I bought some lesser growth Bordeaux since the price was great.
Once they get here I'll post some notes.
2008 Chateau Clos Marsalette Pessac-Leognan and 2009 Chateau Soleil Promesse Puisseguin Saint Emilion .
Also bought a mixed case of modestly priced (<20) white Burgundy.

Re: Alex would be proud
Well done, RDD, I loved the 2005 Clos Marsalette.
Re: Alex would be proud
Hi,
Kind of weird to see my name quoted in the header.
Clos Marsalette is owned by Stefan von Neipperg of Canon La Gaffelière and La Mondotte.
He does good work .
I hope you enjoy,
All the best,
Alex R.

You know you like to see your name in lights, Alex

It turns out Stephan von Neipperg has some ownership of Chateau Soleil Promesse Puisseguin Saint Emilion .
I read up on his philosophy of handling the grapes tenderly, biodynamic techniques and drastic reduction of chemical sprays, weedkillers, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers.
Sounds great.
Hope it taste great.

2009 Chateau Soleil Promesse is all one could want from a wine under 20 bucks.
A nose of toasty oak and ripe merlot.
Bright , fresh with a rich mid palate that ends with some smooth tannins but a slightly hot finish.
It's 14% shows.
I think it would improve with a few years of aging but I doubt it will last that long in this house.
It used to be you could go to Cali for these bargains. Beringers Knghts Valley for 15 bucks was a deal.
But now I have to go back to France to find something inexpensive that doesn't seem manipulated.
A nice wine for Sat/Sun dinner.
89 points.
