1993 Barolo "Sperss"; Angelo Gaja
smoke, earth, bitterness, almost like dried tea leaf, some truffle and stewed plum, cranberry and cherry, dried beef and lots of flinty notes, bonfire, slightly autumnal with classic grainy tannins, still structured but the palate seems very developed. Very nice with plenty of complexity and poise, but in some ways the oaky liquorice note still dominates and leaves one wishing that there was either more fruit, less oak, or both. Somewhat underwhelming, despite the drying length. 64/100

I've not had a 1993 I've enjoyed yet. I'll re-check some Sandrone I stashed....

I've liked the Aldo Conterno's that I have tried.
