- 2008 Château Léoville Poyferré - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (7/9/2013)
Dark purple/red to rim. Intense nose of cassis, blackberry, bacon, smoke, and floral notes underneath. A bit of alcoholic heat on opening with disappears after an hour. Medium-full body, good balance of fruit, acid and tannin, flavors follow the nose, medium finish, clearly very young but still exciting with all the pieces in place to become a superb complex Bordeaux. Outstanding.

Bought 6 of these based on enablement from my BWE brethren. Was in the mood to pop one way too young, ITNOS of course. Very nice!

Very well done indeed.
I have a case.
I'm gonna pick up a couple bottles of the 2006 in NY.
Leoville Poyferre is on a roll.

"Leoville Poyferre is on a roll."" Yeah, for maybe the last 40 years. It did not get the respect it deserved until recently, maybe because it was in most vintages the third best Leoville.

A wine guy that I know once said that one of the dirty little secrets of Bordeaux is that Poyferre is better than Barton. I'm inclined to agree.

As any BWEer knows, Leoville Poyferre is our only repeat wine of the year winner.

Thanks for the check-up on what is an extremely young wine. Love me some Poyferre! I love Barton, too.
While no means a comparison, I popped an 08 Reignac on Monday. It showed well on pop and pour - young, chewy, but still showy. Next day, it clamped down hard shutting the door to all goods. Third day, fully closed.
These are still babies.

Young Bordeaux is the best.

2008 Leoville Poyferre is a Jim How kind of wine. And now is a Jim How kind of time to drink it.

I love Leoville Poyferre.
I've had the 2000 twice in recent years. Last summer we did a horizontal tasting of about 15 2000 Bordeaux, and the Poyferre was my WOTN.
Has anyone had the 2003? I have a half case, but haven't tried it yet.
