2009 Talbot has been uncorked and other ramblings....

Post by JimHow »

I hated the 2008 version of this wine, it was incredibly soft, which made me wary about purchasing future vintages.
Let's see how this one fares....

I remember years ago we were in a fine restaurant in Montreal and I ordered a Gruaud Larose that was ceremoniously presented at the table.
And the guy at the next table kept whispering: "Tal-bawt'! Tal-bawt'!"

Well, as I said in a separate thread, I ordered my petition papers for a run in the Democratic primary for the U.S. House of Representatives in Maine's second congressional district.
The primary is in June, and the general election is in November.
This really means nothing, as anyone can take out petition papers without officially becoming a candidate under federal election laws
And I would still say that my odds of running are less than 25%.
Still, the calendar is now becoming a factor and there are things that have to be done preliminarily.
I still have another six weeks or so before I have to make that Hamlet-like decision to jump in or not.
1,000 signatures are due by March 17th, which is the drop dead deadline, but a lot has to happen before that date.

Initial impressions of the wine.... Very silky, smooth, absolutely no rough edges. Soft.

Sadly of course I would probably have to take a little leave of absence from BWE if I run. Maybe not, we shall see.
Hard to believe it was nine years ago this week when I took my last leave, when my mother died suddenly just before midnight on January 6, 2005.
Good grief, nine years. That just seems impossible, it literally seems like yesterday. Not a day goes by that I don't think about her, she was an amazing person.
Many of you were here then and are still around now! A site of many enduring friendships!

The nose on the '09 Talbot is soft as well, but pleasant. This is clearly a better wine than the 2008, no surprise there, of course. The color is medium St. Julien ruby.

Boy is this wine "pleasant" on the palate!
This is like a drink-now-and-for-the-next-20-years, now that's what I call a "plateau of maturity!"
Let's see whether it stands up to food....

I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised by his wine.
It is similar to the 2008 in that it is soft and smooth, but it is VERY different in that while the 2008 Talbot seemed to bring out the weaknesses of that vintage (unripeness and thinness), the 2009 seems to bring out its strengths (ripe fruit but that great St. Julien seamlessness that we love so much from Ducru, Gruaud, LLC, Talbot, etc., in strong vintages). Bravo! Still has not met the Friday night whoopie pie, though....

Yum! Bravo! Delicious wine. Very easy drinking now, but will age well. At $57, I'll buy 4-6 more bottles.
He says this is the best Talbot since 82 and 86? Hey, who am I to argue with him?
93 points. Liked it a lot.

Jim,

Speaking of "leave of absence" from BWE, you might need to "white out" some threads here to preserve your squeaky clean image. Imagine if the populace learned that you routinely savaged the state pastry by eating it with a red Bordeaux wine!

Yes, I expect we would be deleting more than a few whoopie pie threads, JCNorthway....

That wine is 110$ here. I believe you it is good, but at that price?

No bargain for the pour French Canadian of Québec.

I'll bring you a bottle when I see you in Quebec this year, it is a Jean-Nicolas Maltais kind of wine.

Jim, certainly not an easy decision. What shall I say? Some good friends of mine were members of the German parliament, and three of them were ministers in western states of Germany. To the extent they succeeded in politics, their personal life became more and more problematic or even destructive. Sometimes the price to pay…

Agreed, Rudi.
Twenty years ago I was a rising star in politics, then lost a close race for Congress in 1994.
A lot has changed since then. It is much more ugly now.
In the end, I have to decide whether I have the stomach for it, because it can be pretty vile.

Deleting a few posts here won't cut it.

http://www.techhive.com/article/223682/ ... sence.html

Specifically I'm thinking of that contretemps with Suckler over at the WS or wherever it was. On the other hand if you were to completely erase yourself from the web ... well, that would raise a red flag even in the context of something as mundane as an employment application.

And yes, you should delete this post. "This tape" will not self-destruct in 10 seconds. I've heard that even snapchats maybe available for 30 days on their servers.

Good luck.

You never heard of me.
