TN: 2000 Château Duhart-Milon (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac)

As I've said before, this is what Carruades "should" be. This is Lafite-lite. You get the sense it is starting to emerge from an awkward stage. Still shedding some of the awkwardness of adolesence, but it has a beautiful cassis Pauillac nose, a deep-ruby color that could easily be mistaken for Lafie from a fine vintage, and a richness that I clearly identify from the truly great vintage of 2000. This is another wine that tends to make me conclude that 2000 is better than 2005, but of course it is tough to compare. Classic Bordeaux, not internationalized at all. You taste and feel the great winemaking, and the great raw materials of the vintage. This is Bordeaux! (91 pts.)

Delicious wine. I wonder where I can get a case of this at a reasonable price?

I believe they are a next door neighbor to Lafite, no? Very nice, and yet no surprise from this very great vintage.
Carruades is way overpriced, and always very disappointing these days. D-M is real lead pencil Pauillac. Bravo.

Aside: Jim, are we on Greenwich mean time here on our new site? Can we go to Greenwich, Maine time instead? Seriously, it's kinda' weird.

Steve,

I think there is a setting somewhere that allows you to indicate time zone. I remember having the same issue early on, but I did something so that I am on US time now.

Guys,
I sold my Carraudes lafite 2000 at auction recently and guess what - bought Duhart Milon 2000 for one quarter the price.
Go figure.....
The Duhart is better. A more balanced, complete wine.

Amen, Claudius, great move.
Yes Steve, there is a setting where you can adjust it.

Thanks for the note, Jim. I bought a pair on futures and had sort of forgotten about them for the most part. I think I will continue to do so, but it is always nice to hear updates suggesting that this is shedding that "awkwardness of adolescence".

Duhart is so classic Bordeaux. It's a "throwback" to times when aging 15 years was a pre-condition to purchasing it. Always punches way above its' weight in great vintages, it proudly wears the coat of arms of Pauillac.

Steve, go to the User Control Panel link at the upper left corner of the screen under "Home", click the "Board Preferences" tab, and adjust your time settings in the "My Time Zone" drop down. I think you might need to choose Atlantic time instead of Eastern because the board does not seem to recognize DST.
