Michael's ancient wines….

Post by JimHow »

I snuck in a small pour of each of his 1950 Gazin, 1937 Ausone, and 1950 Cos d'Estournel, and at first glance I thought all three were undrinkable.
Then I returned to them about an hour later. I still did not understand the '37, but the two 1950s were very compelling indeed!
Still a lot of vibrancy, nice color to them, and as Marcus described elsewhere the Gazin in particular had a really fascinating, ever-changing nose.
To me the '50 Cos had the best showing, what a real treat!
Thank you Michael P!

The Gazin was the winner of those 3 by far. Still had loads of fruit and the flavors you only get in super old wines.

Thanks Michael P for making sure we always have something truly special to sample.

Gazin is a right bank that can really age. I brought a 1970 to BWE Napa many many years ago.
