Re: Hilary New Hit Song
I wonder when somebody is going to tell us exactly which federal criminal statute Hillary has violated?

…because I have yet to see anyone, even from the great "fair and independent" <rolls eyes> Fox News, cite the specific federal criminal statute that Hillary has supposedly violated….

Yes he was a beacon of leadership....
Re: Hilary New Hit Song
The swift-boaters are just getting started.
Just think of all the student loans that could be paid off or lead water pipes that could be replaced with the tens, maybe hundreds of millions of dollars spent on trying to find/manufacture evidence of a crime committed by HRC.
Why haven't they found anything? Is she really that cunning a criminal? They say where there's smoke there's fire. But in this case it's a fire lit by the pitchfork- and torch-carrying villagers who want to burn the witch.
Maybe Bernie can ask the Pope, who is after all infallible and has a direct line to someone who should know, whether Hillary is a criminal. Oh but that's right, the Pope won't even be in the country when Bernie is in the Vatican consorting with the tin-pot South American dictators attending the conference he bullied his way into. I'm sure he'll seek their advice on how to break up the big banks, so the next time he's asked instead of a blank stare he can explain how nationalizing them will be good for the country.

Jim et al,
I know and care little about politics but one thing I do know is people are pretty sensitive about their chosen ones. The amount of money wasted on these primaries by the individuals/parties/press etc is astonishing. The rhetoric and mud slinging has become tiresome but the one thing I get a kick out of is the political satire. True or not the cartoons, songs etc have a lot of peoples minds thinking and some of the stuff that is passing on the net is a riot....based on truth or not its still a laugh but more important they may stir more emotion than any debate may. Sorry if it was politically incorrect and excuse my ignorance.
Blanquito,
Rob Ford had his faults and being a crack head was one of them (aka Mayor Marion Barry of DC). As a councillor and then mayor he probably did more to try and quell over spending and corruption but where did it get him? People loved him looking the other way regarding his drug habits knowing he always spoke for and stood up for the little guy but the political hacks buried him.

Yes it is pretty funny if you can dissociate from the angst of it all...
Re: Hilary New Hit Song
Rob Ford teaches us that the culture of corrupt politicians is not just a New Orleans, Washington DC, or Chicago local affliction.
Re: Hilary New Hit Song
AKR,
Rob Ford was far from corrupt. No one will ever accuse him of not doing the right thing for the people and their tax dollars. His notoriety solely surrounded his drug addiction and attempted denial. Sad part was the crack house he was frequenting was 5 doors up from my parents place/the home that I grew up in and the high school football team that he helped coach was where I went to school. No question a rough and tumble neighbourhood with its fair share of problems. Amazing the number of successful people that I know that came out of there. It was quite something when the news hit the TV and they were showing all of the places that he frequented it was like deja vu.....all homes and condo complexes that I grew up amongst.

Re: Hilary New Hit Song
I'm going to make a bold prediction: She's not going to be indicted.
Re: Hilary New Hit Song
Jim, I don't think you're going as far out on a limb there as those who think she will be.
Re: Hilary New Hit Song
Agree, for many, many reasons, none of which has to do with the law itself. First, indicting any front-running candidate in an election year is a minefield, regardless of the merits of the case. More importantly, the Clintons might be the most politically connected pair in the history of government. They are also notoriously tenacious. I can't imagine anyone relishes enduring the furor that would certainly result. Obama, despite all the rumors of his personal dislike of the Clintons, probably also has no taste for this. At best, it would reflect at least tangentially on him, since it occurred in his administration, but the greater risk is that she would begin to share the skeletons she almost certainly has on him that exist in every administration that ever was.JimHow wrote:I'm going to make a bold prediction: She's not going to be indicted.
For the people who already love her, no charges will prove she was just being persecuted. For the people who already hate her, it will only confirm she is above the law. The needle won't move, and she knows it.
The seedy side of me kind of wishes it would happen, just for the spectacle of it. Why not? The rest of this election cycle is the Gong Show already.

Does a president have the constitutional right to pardon herself?

Re: Hilary New Hit Song
Hey I'm no big fan of Hillary. And I guess I just don't understand the crime. Some emails were "removed" from a "secure" server. I never did see a federal criminal statute cited in that article.
I got a guy off a couple years ago on child pornography charges. As I was preparing for the trial, I sat there reading all of the reports of computer forensic experts, and I tried to understand BitTorrents, and Tribler, and allocated versus unallocated spaces, etc., etc., and at one point I just threw up my hands and I said to myself, I just don't understand this stuff! I know what the competing "experts" were concluding about how these 12 child pornography images got into my client's computer, but I, Jim How, did not understand exactly how it happened. And that was one of the arguments that I made to the jury: Do you, as jurors, understand this? There's no dispute the images are there in my guy's computer, but do you understand how they got there among all of these other thousands of images and billions of bits of information? If not -- if you don't understand -- how can you find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt? It was an argument that I think resonated with the jury.
Likewise, with Hillary, my common sense tells me -- and I think a majority of voters think likewise -- that something about moving emails from one server to the next doesn't strike as a federal crime. It seems to me what Petraeus did was something different, involving his girlfriend. Although, that smacked to me of over-zealous prosecution as well. I realize the Democrats do the same thing, but it seems to me the Republicans have mastered it even more: Creating these big "scandals" against Democratic presidential candidates: Willie Horton; impeaching over lies about sex; Swift Boat; Bill Ayers; birtherism; computer gate, etc., etc.
Now, breaking into Watergate and covering it up, that's federal criminal activity. Iran-Contra, that is clear cut criminal. Transferring emails from one server to the other? Eh, this seems more like Swift Boat to me.

Re: Hilary New Hit Song
It was actually Al Gore who first used Willie Horton as a cudgel against Michael Dukakis.
Story had traction because it was a simple unforgettable narrative.
To wit: nearly 30 years later, we all remember the name.

Re: Hilary New Hit Song
I always wondered what happened with Mitch Daniels and why he never ended up in the GOP presidential hunt.
Something about him struck me as being Dukakis like. Good technocratic management.

Re: Hilary New Hit Song
Jim, I think the thing that makes it a problem is that she was repeatedly and expressly told not to do what she did, by the NSA and other agencies. She inquired about it, supposedly so she could get all of her and her staffs emails on her Blackberry (this is part of what is in the emails in question, in fact). NSA told her in no uncertain terms it was completely insecure and prohibited. She and Mills asked again several times, emailed each other about how to get around it. NSA apparently told them both no firmly and to "sit and color" (quit asking). Then, immediately after completing and signing off on a course on security and handling of secret information all incoming members of State are required to complete, she hired a tech guy (currently cooperating with the FBI) to do exactly what she was expressly told she could not do. Whether it seems like a big deal or not, it's hard to get around culpability in my view, her charade about tech naiveté notwithstanding.
And for what it's worth, though I know we disagree on this, Benghazi was Iran-Contra - a gun running operation gone bad. But rather than risk that coming to light they attempted to cover it up and abandoned soldiers in the field. Unforgivable for me.

Re: Hilary New Hit Song
I just want Hillary to lose to Bernie so that we don't have to deal with Huma Abedin for 4-8 years.
I'm just wondering why, Scott, if Hillary's conduct is as obviously cut and dry illegal as you say it is, she hasn't been arrested by now.
I doubt the civil servant prosecutors in the Justice Department are that political. They can indict a ham sandwich.
But maybe I'm just a naive country lawyer from Maine….

Re: Hilary New Hit Song
Ha! Not a Huma fan either.
Regarding Hillary, your naive country lawyer from Maine trumps my simple country, midwest faith healer. My understanding is that the investigation is still ongoing and then will be referred to Justice, where it will die. It isn't up to the FBI to arrest and charge, so I hear, but Justice.

Have you ever seen Huma's interview of the "awe" she felt, the "connection" she felt the first time she ever met Hillary in a greeting line, when their eyes connected? God, what a lightweight.
Re: Hilary New Hit Song
Blech, anything but Bernie. Hillary is the only choice this year!
I am just waiting to open this beauty in November:

Tim, I suspect you'll be popping that one before the holidays.
Jim, I did see that. You mean you didn't get the same thrill up your leg when Hillary laid on hands??

I met Hillary during her head band era. She was the definition of sensuality.
