A friend of mine asked me about the following wines, which I don't know much about, any observations?
Ch La Chaize Brouilly Brouilly 07
Bonserine Ct Rotie Les Moutonnes Cote Rotie 00
Bonserine Ct Rotie Sarrasine Cote Rotie 02
Bouscaut Pessac-Leognan 05
Des Annereaux Lalande De Pomerol 05
Olivier Blanc Pessac-Leognan 06
Olivier Rouge Pessac-Leognan 05
Olivier Rouge Pessac-Leognan 05
Serilhan Saint-Estephe 05
Doisy Daene Sauternes 06
Anybody know about these wines?
Re: Anybody know about these wines?
The Bouscaut, Annereaux, and Olivier are usually decent inexpensive quaffers with pretty good QPR in good years, not worth the trouble IMO in poor years, though I have not had the '05s or any of them since the '00s. The Doisy Daene should be an excellent Sauternes, I've loved earlier efforts but no first hand knowledge of the '06.
No experience at all with the Bonserine Cote Roties, but RP says the '00 Moutonnes "reflects the excessive yields that existed in the Cote Rotie vineyards. The wine is not very concentrated, and is surprisingly austere and tannic. It is an elegant but oaky example that will not age beyond a decade. A principal objection with respect to Bonserine's cuvees is their high levels of aggressive oak. They are internationally-styled, with less typicity than other examples of the appellation. Readers may recall I have had the same problem with all Bonserine's recent vintages." That was apparently a barrel sample tasted in 2002, given a rating of 85-87 and a drinking window of 2002-2012.

Jim,
Ch La Chaize Brouilly Brouilly 07
This is a huge estate (100 hectares) that was imported into America for years by Château & Estate.
A good middle-of-the-road wine
Bonserine Ct Rotie Les Moutonnes Cote Rotie 00
Bonserine Ct Rotie Sarrasine Cote Rotie 02
This producer's wines are not among the best in the appellation, but he produces several levels, so it may be hard to generalize.
I have a bottle of their 2003 in my cellar.
Bouscaut Pessac-Leognan 05
I assume you mean the red.
A Graves great growth. They had a run-in with Parker who was nasty to them.
The wine is better than its reputation IMHO.
Des Annereaux Lalande De Pomerol 05
A largish estate making good wine that you won't have to feel guilty about opening young .
Olivier Blanc Pessac-Leognan 06
Olivier Rouge Pessac-Leognan 05
Olivier Rouge Pessac-Leognan 05
See above. "Historically" the white has been better than the red. But I think changes are going on at this estate...

Serilhan Saint-Estephe 05
This is a new estate not far from Meyney. Inexpensive and good value for money. Not one for long keeping.
Doisy Daene Sauternes 06
Yum. Medium weight. Dependable.
All the best,
Alex

Re: Anybody know about these wines?
For more than three decades we have both Bouscaut and Olivier in our local Supermarket, but mostly I was underwhelmed in earlier days. However, since 2000, I had excellent bottles from both estates. Especially 2001 and 2005 Bouscaut, and 2000 and 2005 Olivier...
