Uncorked 2002 Clerc Milon

Post by Houndsong »

I remembered this as one of the rounder, richer, 2002s, and it is living up to the memory. Excellent sweetness straight out of the chute. Teeing up a pasta carbonara in a little while.

I wouldn't hesitate to open another. This is not a 20-year resolved tannins bottle but it's drinking well. Time flies in a passive cellar I guess. I was afraid it would be closed. Not at all. This is an intensely flavored wine that is not more than medium weight. Very enjoyable.

Thanks for the update, it sounds good. Another rewarding 2002 Left Banker.

2002 left bank is excellent!
PJs has 2002 Bellevue for $28.97, I wonder if it's any good.

I had the '04 on release, and it was beautiful. But six months or so later, it started to become a little disjointed, probably closing down. It's interesting that the '02 is drinking so well now. I really blew it on '02!

This is very good news because there had originally been widespread concern by some critics that the fruit would be overcome by the tannins, much like the 1975 disappointments.

That was my conclusion, based on a too limited sample - there was fruit there, but outweighed by the acid and tannins, with an elusive mid-palate. Obviously, you have to take it wine by wine in a vintage like 2002. To add to the current info, I'm going to open an '02 d'Issan at some point soon.
