Nice nose, but a bit rugged, unforgiving on the palate. Seems fairly modern and concentrated. I think it has potential, it may just be in an awkward place, like the other 2006s I've had so far. (89 pts.)

This estate has struggled famously over the years.

Steve,
I would not say it has struggled entirely, it has been somewhat inconsistent and maybe has never reeached its potential??
The 82 and 83 were very nice wines yet I found those from the other 80s vintages to be a bit rough and simple.
The 95 and 96 are both pretty good by the way, but maybe it only does well when the vintage conditions are favourable?

In any case, Margaux was the place for underperforming and over-classified estats for decades.
At least some are now showing more consistency yet others still are under-performing.
Pity as good Margaux has a flavour character unlike cab blends from anywhere else.
