I don;t think 06 offers much in value terms.
I bought Leoville Barton, Pavie Macquin, GPL, Malescot St E, Calon Segur and Haut Batailley.
I want some from all but the worst vintages - gives me different reference points rather than lots from the same vintage.

Won't say any are must buys but LB is typically a buy for me.

Lagrange and Chasse Spleen, if prices drop even more, then Lynch Bages.

I bought Haut-Bailly and Batailley on release, and have my eye on some Gloria, for around $25 a bottle

I notice some wines have high scores - e.g Ducru, which our favorite critic compares to the 1996 and 1986 - if they are really that good they are surely worth a look...or is it because these wines are just heavier (and hence more flattering in their youth)?

I have read from Gilman's view of the cellar that Leoville Barton, Haut Bailly and Pavie Macquin went very oak-heavy in 2006. I would suggest tasting one before buying cases.

Time to submit nominations for the 2009 BWE Wine of the Year. I nominate the 2006 nada. Seriously. This year let's send a message to Bordeaux.

I bought at reasonable prices 1, 2 or 3 cases each of Dom de Chev, Gruaud, Clerc M, Lagrange, Durfort, Gloria, Cantemerle, Moulin de la Rose (St Jul) and bargain-Glana. The latter is a revelation. The Cantemerle is very, very close to the 05. The others have yet to arrive chez Richard.

As Jim's notes suggest, it's looking like a BWE style left-bank vintage: perhaps cross between 02 and 04 in style with quality a cut above both?

UK prices aren't showing any easing-off (if anything the opposite after RP regraded) but you guys in the US have retailers with a much more realistic attitude towards prices.

Guys,
I am an unabashed lover of 1986 Bordeaux.
If 06 is really as good, then load up.
Many producers made much better 86's than 82's.
