NYC Restaurant Recs.

Friend asked about Steakhouse and an Italian restaurant near Rockefeler center in NYC that would come recommended.

are my favorite steak places

Italian:

Fresco
Osteria del Circo
My favorites are always the Serafina restaurants: on 61st and Madison (for pizzas, pasta and more) and 58th and Madison for osteria fare.

For good steaks in the classic old New York’ey ambiance, then I would recommend Keen’s on 36th (bet 5th and 6th Ave.). Also, allows BYOB at $25 per (caveat: last time I was there about a year –and-a-half ago). Wine list is not that good (as with most NYC steakhouses, imho), but the bourbon offerings is excellent.

Now, if good wines are going to be involved, then I second the suggestion for Spark’s on 46th between 2nd and 3rd. Good cuts and very good wine list at relatively decent price.

As for Italian, there’s Insieme along 7th (bet 51st and 52nd). This is owned/operated by the same team as Hearth and Terroir in the East Village. Passionate wine geeks and good, fresh Italian cooking.
