Gerry, you'll like these two 2015. At UGC, Léoville Barton was my fav Saint-Julien, and Haut-Bailly is a great 2015, very concentrated.

For my part, brought back two perfect condition bottles of 1990 Chateau Lagrange, from DC. At the actual price I paid for that great Saint-Julien (who end up second in the blind tasting at 2001 BWE convention, between 1989 Lynch Bages and 1989 Pichon Baron), i'm very satisfied.

And 1 bottle of 2012 Rauzan Ségla took the road to Maine with Jim, to drink somewhere in 2027-2030...

The '15 Haut Bailly-hide them from yourself for awhile. Very, very nice @ UGC, Very angry out of a 375 a few nights ago. Concentrated, precise, will be beautiful, but tough to like today.

'14 DdChevalier-drinking pretty well now, and will get better with time. I opened a 750 with rib eyes a few weeks ago and it was a wonderful pairing. After dinner the finish got tighter, and tannic. I've bought a lot of this wine, I'm looking forward to the evolution. It seems like it is just going to improve.

I was lamenting downsizing a few months ago and having less cellar space. I'll just have to make room. The BWE Annual helped some with that. I realized how fortunate I am when I read a post over on WB today by a guy who said his wife just had a come to Jesus talk with him about the size of his cellar and their retirement plans to go full-time RVing.

Or perhaps even better yet, a refridgerated trailer so they can still sit together while on the road though after he sells off his wine collection maybe that kind of compromise will be off the table

After the last move a little over a year ago, I told Kim that we could not do that again as long as the cellar remained more than a few hundred bottles. My plan is the cellar is big enough as is to get me to retirement (unless the convention is in Denver next year), all I have to do is stop buying more.

LOL. I’ll just put a bed in the basement next to the wine cabinets.

There are still plenty of good QPRs in France and Bordeaux but the top stuff has definitely increased in price way more than inflation.

I’ve got a few 2005 right bankers to match a 2005 Canon, or something from 1995 which will be a lot closer to mature.

I suspect part of the price issue is the slide of the dollar against the Euro. Since we are traveling soon to France, I checked today, and the Euro = $1.26! The price of this vacation is on the rise. On top of that, ongoing rail strikes that could impact planned travel.

The foreign exchange rate plays a role for sure Jon. But I’m talking about wines like Canon and Pavie and Angelus being over $300 and first growths being over $600. That’s more than inflation and exchange rates alone would explain compared to the 1980s and 1990s when I was regularly buying those level wines. The escalation is related to supply and demand in the age of universal information and the internet.

I just suggested the Canon because I saw I had some earlier vintages in case you wanted to make a vertical. Not wed to 2005 at all, frankly the 2005s are still too young right now. Got any number of other options to open, let's connect close to the day to figure out what.

If I buy too much it does not matter because I can take up to 19 bottles on the return trip.

I was happy that Mark did a Library sale because the first vintage of SIs that we bought was the 2005. I was sorry that he did not have enough of the fabulous 2002s to put some on the list, but, fortunately, stefanJr and one of his colleagues still have some.

BTW: For anyone not in the SI wine club, next week SI will open the Library sale to all comers.

Yes, indeed, Glenn. I neglected to buy the 05 7 Springs SS and was glad to get a second chance. The regular bottling is great, so I have high expectations for the SS. I love the 05 White Rose--it is maybe my favorite 05--but had already consumed the few I bought on release. I have drunk the 03 and 04 7 Springs courtesy of stefanJr, but this is the first chance I have had to purchase them from SI. Of the younger wines I have either never drunk or have drunk one time.

At under $50/per btl converted I would tend to agree, nicely done. What do taxes on wine run across the pond out of curiousity?

Had several LE bourbons sell through on consignment and decided to use those funds on a case purchase of the 2014 Beychevelle, and if you total the purchase costs of the bourbons which sold, the Beychevelle ending up costing me just under $36/btl

JC we pay £25 a 12 pack case duty and value added tax at 20%. So if I took that out I would pay (£200 + 25/2) x 1.2 ex delivery. So that is £255, which is £42.50 all in, or $60 at current exchange rates (my hasn’t the dollar weakened some)
