Pol Roger Rose 2009 $49.50

Post by Blanquito »

In St. Martin (2/3rds of which a French Virgin Island, the remaining 1/3 is Dutch) for a family vacation. This being a French territory, there is lots of good bread, cheese, coffee, cigarettes and wine. The wine is surprisingly cheap, not NH State cheap, but in a tiny shop they have the 2012 Pol Roger Blanc de Blancs for $77, the 2006 Pol Roger Winston Churchill for $167, and the Pol Roger Rose 2009 on sale for $55! And they have a 10% case discount to bring the rose down to $49.50 if I go big. The cheapest price in the USA for the rose is $99 per wine searcher pro.

I grabbed a rose to enjoy on the beach and will report back. In case it’s terrific, I’m wondering if I can get some of this back to the USA without cooking it? Anyone tried to do that? There’s the 2-3 hours at the airport in 90 heat, and then a 3 hour layover in Charlotte at 90 degrees. Maybe ice packs inside the styro box would do the trick?

I’d do it.
Last week I drank prieure lichine 2006 that endured the 100 degree fed ex trek from Cal to OH for 3days. None the worse for it.

Don’t hesitate, I just schlepped some Rosés and Cote Rôtie from Provence to Israel in 100f heat, in the car trunk, in the suitcase for three days (bringing the suitcase to the hotels in the evenings) and the simple Rosé we drank yesterday in Tel Aviv was delicious.

Another yes vote. I’d buy a case, drink a couple while down there, and put ice packs in the empty slots of the styrofoam shipper.

You drove from Provence to Israel? That sounds like a fascinating trip!

LOL. One day David, one day!

So let me put the sentence in correct order:

Don’t hesitate, I just schlepped some Rosés and Cote Rôtie from Provence to Israel ON A PLANE. WE DROVE for three days in 100f heat, and the wine was in the car trunk, in a suitcase.
The simple Rosé we drank yesterday in Tel Aviv was delicious.

note to self: don't post too early in the morning after drinking rosé the night before

I'll second this. Even without a drive from Provence to Israel. :D

UPDATE: so I drank the 09 Pol Roger Rose beach- and pool-side for 3 days, and it was kinda meh. It had a very sour profile and seemed a little acid deficient for a bubbly. I had just tried the 08 of the same wine at the pool party and I liked that one much more.

I ended up passing on a case, but thanks for the input on checking wine in the heat— next time I’ll be ready.
