  • 1995 Roc de Cambes - France, Bordeaux, Côtes de Bourg (8/31/2019)
Dark inky color, some cedar and earth on the nose, on the palate this is bright and focused with a fine smooth texture. The fruit is vibrant, the tannins are resolved, impeccable balance, a bit weak in the mid palate and a tad monolithic but still delicious. The finish is good. (91 pts.)

Nice. In the latest vintages, the price went up almost exponentially for that wine. Sad.

RdC was always like 2x or 3x its AOC peers as Mitjavile never really considered those to be its sale comps.

It is a wine with a strong back bone. We had some 00 with Claret, MichaelP et al. in the last few years and the wines were only just bricking.

Loved the 89 and 90 of this wine. Drank a bunch in grad school. I’ve enjoyed later years too — the 98 and 00 in particular — but never quite as much.

Yes, Roc de Cambes is about three times as expensive as the next-most-expensive wine in its appellation.

*However* I think it's best to see this from a different perspective.

I believe that this wine, if put up blind against much more famous and expensive wines, would hold its own, and then some.

I have a bottle of the 2010 that I think will prove to be stellar.
Cellartracker notes are full of praise.

Therefore, I would put this wine forth as a gem, a wine for wine drinkers rather than label drinkers. In essence, it should be seen as on of the best Bordeaux rather than "just a Côtes de Bourg".

Best regards,
Alex R.

I agree with all that you say here, but let’s get real: all we want to know is your opinion on Haut Bages Liberal!!!

Ok, that was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on the internet, let alone on a wine forum.
