2015 du Tertre: a BD special
2015 du Tertre: a BD special
The 2016 thread made me reach for a half bottle of the 15 du Tertre. This really should come with a warning for Jim: WARNING, if you own any of this, don’t open or it will all be gone in a week!
Ok, this is, for my sensibilities, clearly a modern bordeaux but modern Bordeaux done right. It lacks the tension, nuance and depth of the best wines, but it is a really enjoyable drink with loads of clean, pure fruit without heaviness and heat.
2015 du Tertre
Man, this is good and still drinking well right now. Sexy levels of inky, blackberry fruit but well balanced with rhubarb, pomegranate juiciness and a compelling greener note of mint and wintergreen. Rounded and smooth, but without that spit-polished, tannin-managed vibe uber modern bordeaux have. Tangy, juicy finish, helping sweep up all the inky, iodine-infused fruit and glycerin. Might have to find more. 92+

Re: 2015 du Tertre: a BD special
Big change from the 750 bottle I opened a year ago. I found the oak to be out front and unintegrated, with a prominent vanilla note - which I can't stand when it is the first thing I notice in a wine.

Yeah Chris, I saw your note on this in CT after I'd opened the bottle, and based on your experience I was surprised how little oak my half bottle showed.
I am not a fan of lots of oak, in fact I wish more wineries would go with no new oak all together.
There was definitely some new oak in my half-bottle, but it's already well integrated.

How much once all of your insider discounts are applied? I got the half bottles for $19 en future, seems like an awesome price in retrospect!JimHow wrote:Baby doll.

I'd easily pay $45 for 750mls of this juice.

The older stable mate 15 Giscours showed very well during the tasting...
Re: 2015 du Tertre: a BD special
The 2000 Du Tertre was a successful effort too...It was my first experience with the estate when it was initially referenced right here on BWE. I drank a few last year and have 1 bottle left. Sounds like i need to acquire a few of the 2015 and 2016....although prices have crept up
Re: 2015 du Tertre: a BD special
Agree on the 2000 du Tertre -- $28 on release, and I'm happy to find now at auction for $50-60 -- it's worth it -- drinking well and will for 5-10 years.

The 1996 du Tertre is also drinking really well these days, and can be found at auction $40-$50. I might like it a bit more than the 2000.
But the 2000 and the 1996 especially are in a different style than the 2015 and 2016, which are smoother and richer.
