Re: So what have you bought lately?
Bill, I’m betting you must have had more bottles of St Innocent than any other producer.
For me, it’s probably Ridge.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I bought 2 bottles of 2016 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva yesterday based on Tim Heaton's recent recommendation.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Right, Patrick; I have more bottles from St Innocent than from any other producer. By far.
I have only 5-6 cases of Ridge; all Zins or Zin blends. From the rest of CA I have maybe two cases.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Hmmm, just checked, I am getting low on Ridge, down to 7.5 cases across all varietals, bottlings and vineyards.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I’d expect to have 7 cases of Geyserville lying around, as a start.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
3 x 2016 Chateau Bourgneuf (read many good things about that one!)
Some other single bottle of white italian (Frescobaldi Toscana, some whit from Sicilia), white french (Domaine la Ragotiere Chardonnay from Loire, Hugel Riesling), and some reds (Montelli Chianti, Rubesco red, a Douro and Chinon Gabares from Nicolas Grosbois). All little wines to stay desinfeçted during the quarantine!

Went into a wine shop I haven't frequented for a while and couldn't believe what I saw on the self staring back at me. Had to be done:
2 x Sociando Mallet 2010 (tucked away)...
2 x Sociando Mallet 2010 (tucked away)...
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Picked up a couple of each of the recently released 2018 Sancerre’s from Pascal Cotat in both the La Grande Dame and Les Mont Damnes.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
4x 2016 Produttori dal Barbaresco. Grabbed the last 4 NH had on the shelf but pretty sure I'll be buying more. My 1st non-Champagne purchase of the year. God I'm weak.

i've actually had those Cotat Sancerre's from a different vintage and really enjoyed them

Re: So what have you bought lately?
With the buying moratorium suspended like Bloomberg’s campaign (I was way ahead of the curve on that one, buying weeks ago in anticipation), I’ve won the following pristine-looking bottles recently on auction:
-1982 Talbot, 3 bottles, $173 each all-in
-1990 Louviere rouge, 3 bottles, $65 each all-in
-1989 Brunel Les Cailloux Chateauneuf, 2 bottles, $52 each all-in
-1992 Domaine Belle Hermitage, 2 bottles, $53 each all-in
Good prices given the provenance, very few bidders, I got them basically for the reserve price, are priced starting to break?

Well done, blanquito.
Very well done indeed.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Glad I did not bid on those items, Patrick. I was happy to get 6 bottles of the 2014 Louis Michel Montee de Tonnerre for $226 at the same auction.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Close call! I tried to bid on those Chablis at the last second, but the auction timed-out.stefan wrote:Glad I did not bid on those items, Patrick. I was happy to get 6 bottles of the 2014 Louis Michel Montee de Tonnerre for $226 at the same auction.

It has been a couple of years since I was on WineBid, CV.

Oops. Sorry, I meant that for Blanquito.
I think you cutoff your dealings on winebid as they started charging for storage and for other things, IIRC...
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Winebid WAS awesome most of 2018 and 2019(if you knew how to game it), it has been going nuts with everyone sitting at home and jacking up prices on sunday nights now though!
Re: So what have you bought lately?
CV, my problem with winebid was that they agreed to store my wine indefinitely without charge and this went on for several years. They changed the policy they had with me without proper notification and applied it to purchases I made before getting their notification of the change of policy for me. When I protested, they stood firm. The total disputed amount was almost nothing; something less than $5, IIRC; but I do not want to do business with a company that acts as they do.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Very observant, CV. I used to buy most of my wine on Winebid, for years and years, but after they jacked up their premium, raised their reserve prices, and started charging Colorado residents sales tax (they have a business license in Colorado as well as California for a tiny foothold they have in Aspen), the prices have become less and less attractive. And more recently, it seems to me like their pickings are really slim as well, though that will likely change if we go into a recession.Chateau Vin wrote:I do see you time to time, but not lately, on winebid...Blanquito wrote:Close call! So, I've only bought 2 bottles from them in 2020, and those were to fill out a 12 pack left over from 2019. But this has been the trend for a while on Winebid as the wine market has gotten increasingly silly, here's how many bottles I've bought there in recent years:
2020 -- 2
2019 -- 81
2018 -- 105
2017 -- 137
2016 -- 159

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Been the official end to the Great BWE 2020 Buying Moratorium (we have to do our part to support the global economy, after all) and too much time with little to do except cook and drink great wine, I have put 20 some bids out on lots at various auction sites right now. I am sure to lose many of these bids, but even still at this rate I will be in sore need of a Great BWE Buying Moratorium in 2021!
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Just won three bottles of the 2011 Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains for $70 each.
Hope you guys were right about this producer! Gilman also gave this wine high marks, 95 pts worth.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Excellent producer, Patrick. I have not tasted any 2011 Chevillon NSG as yet, but I am sure that there is no hurry.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Bovard Aigle Cuvee Noe 2014 (Chasselas from Switzerland, what? you guys didn't that? neither did I)
Chateau Lanessan Haut-Medoc 2016 x 5
Jamet Cote Rotie 2016
With that I finished my gift certificate, and have so far complied with the decree of Dec 2019
Any wine I buy now will be due to the suspension of the wine buying moratorium.

Comte, let us know when you try one of the Gourt de Mautens. I opened a 2013 not so long ago and found it just under fabulous. Great complexity and balance for so much grenache. Good core of fruit and body and structure, no real weaknesses.Comte Flaneur wrote:Always one to stick to the letter of the law I recently :

2018 Hugel Riesling (incredibly good in that vintage)
2018 Chateau Bonnet
2016 Tenuta di Renieri Chianti Classico
2016 JP Moueix Bordeaux (to see what 2016 is offeri g for 15 $!)

I have a 6-pack of Halcon Syrah coming tomorrow. Bought on Orlando Bobby's recommendation.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Just went a little overboard on zachys HK auction.
3x mag pavie macquin 2014
1x mag meo camuzet vosne chaumes 2015
3x mag lucien le moine echezeaux 2013
Important to note, these are now the only 7 magnums in my 1000 bottle collection, and i have never had 2 either of these burgs, from either vintage.

Joel, I’m sure we’ll be done with social distancing long before those mags reach maturity. You won’t have to drink them yourself.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
looks like i won't be drinking them at all, since zachy's failed to mention anything anywhere about 25% tariffs on them coming from HK.. thought a few of my deals felt too good to be true.. looks like i will cancel the order. oh well, i have plenty of wine. Hope to drink with you again soon!

Court de Mautens, 2007
Jérôme Bressy, Vaucluse
Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy: full of Mediterranean sunshine, and a thrill and a delight. It is neither Nadia Comaneci (Montreal 1976) nor the Olympic ice figure skating champion, which prevents it from being great, but a lot of fun to drink.
Reminded me of the first wine I drank after my seven week fast: the wonderful Bois De Boursan Cuvee Felix, 2001, which the Mautens could not quite match, but that was a high bar indeed. The Mautens has plenty of time in hand but is drinking very well.
