Thanks JC I may need to drink them all this month if we have to suffer through too many more press conferences like this one.

Tonight it is one of the 2016 Siran, Nicolas.
I may be liking this even better than the 2015.
Very balanced.

Wow, I didn't think I'd ever see you buying Larose-Trintaudon.
Nice haul, I could use an infusion like that.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I'll have to give it a try, Chris, not sure whether I've had it from any vintage.
My goal was to surgcally strike into NH to find some Bordeaux to drink in the near term...

Nice haul! I'm heading up tomorrow to Nashua and will stop in. I'm running out of cellar defenders. I may throw in a couple of 2015 Figeac to round out a case. It nets to $162 which you cant beat now. Recently had a 1990 which was outstanding.JimHow wrote:Tonight it is one of the 2016 Siran, Nicolas.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Being 75, I have managed to withstand the BWE pressure to buy 2016 Bordeaux. However, I bought a few petite chateaux to get a sense of the vintage. Last night we drank
2016 Forcas-Dupre and tonight
2016 Lacoste-Borie.
These are two estates we enjoyed a lot in the 1970s. Of the 2016s, Lucie loved the Listrac and found nothing to like in the Pauillac; she even refused a second glass. I thought the Forcas-Dupre had a pretty nose and pretty good balance, but the tannins were awfully gritty. The Lacoste-Borie is a pleasing modern styled wine. It is concentrated and the tannins are smooth. Lucie got no bouquet, but I thought it pleasant enough for such a young wine. I like it more than the more traditional Forcas-Dupre for drinking now. Lucie complained that there is nothing at the back in the Pauillac. I agree that it dies off quickly.
Incidentally, the Lacoste-Borie cost twice as much as the Forcas-Dupre.

Looking forward to these arriving as I have never had anything from this producer before.

Haven’t had a Listrac is many moons, but Fourcas Loubaney used to be a mainstay in my grad school days.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Still at only 3 bottles of wine other than Champagne this year. Most recent purchase: 5 bottles of Champagne in 375s to share at home with Marjorie. I have so much red wine it can probably last me about 25 years. Since I will be hitting 70 next month that’s probably enough. Still, if I see something particularly appealing for near term consumption I can be tempted.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
given how much wine we all own I hope none of us are risking in-person visits to any wine stores...now is not the time!
I do admit that I have broken my buying "moratorium" a couple of times this year. The main thing that led to that is that I actually sold a solid mixed case of high-value wines earlier this year, then somehow retrofitted my "moratorium" to be "no net new spending on wine", thus licensing my proceeds on my wine sales into a permission to buy more. I am still on net well ahead this year though, as I haven't bought much at all.
I did buy a couple of things inspired by BWE DC 2020 though -- I snapped up four bottles of that 1990 Olga Raffault Les Picasses which was so nice at the Friday dinner. Turns out that is widely available for $80/bottle as a chateau re-release. Not a bargain compared to release price but IMO a very good bargain based on the wine quality. Also got the last affordably priced bottle I could find of the wonderful 2006 Batard-Montrachet from Friday night.
Has anyone noticed that wine prices don't appear to have dropped at all given all the economic turbulence? I haven't seen any significant price cuts on high end wines.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I'm sure alcohol sales are up, thus if anything I would think prices would go up.
The owner of our most popular liquor stores here in Lewiston says his business has never been busier.
I do whatever my governor tells me I can/cannot do.
If liquor stores are essential businesses, I'm allowed to go in.
I made a surgical strike down the Maine Turnpike yesterday to pick up 28 bottles of Bordeaux in Portsmouth, NH.
I washed my hands afterwards and kept 6 feet away from people, including upon checkout, just like Dr. Fauci and Orange Head recommend.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Six feet may not be enough. Wear a mask.
Speaking of alcohol sales, I didn't mention my best pandemic-related score, which technically does not violate whatever remains of my wine buying moratorium. A good Belgian restaurant near my house is selling their stocks of Belgian beer at retail prices, and I picked up two cases of one of my favorite drinks in all the world, genuine Belgian fruit lambic, raspberry, cassis, cherry, etc. Far too low-alcohol and sweet to be celebrated by true beer snobs, but for me it's ideal. Like the best fruit soda you ever tasted underpinned by all these hauntingly complex wild yeast type flavors. Just 2.5% alcohol which is great for a lightweight like me!

Thanks for the advice Dr. Stanley, but I'll stick to whatever my governor and Dr. Fauci tell me I can do.

Well, they are all now advising masks in public so it's good that you're planning to comply .

No mask, but being very careful.
Thank goodness we have people like you out there to help help save the world.
Watching Gov. Cuomo right now. Tell him to put on a mask, will you?

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I saw an article about Pennsylvania closing down liquor stores (they are state operated). After announcing closure starting the following day, there was panic buying with lines stretching around the block. Sales that day were $29 million - highest ever recorded! The governor eventually relented to allow online sales with curbside pick-up. The ordering system was overloaded and crashed.
I took delivery on Sunday of a mixed case ordered from out of state - shopping online for wine can be fun

Marcs, put a mask to drink your Raffault ... soon, one will recommend an astronaut costume, self breeding air reserved...
I respect the 6-7 feet away and good hands and body hygiene, and seem successful up to now. And lot of alcohol desinfection...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I just picked up a mixed case in NH on their 15% Cab sale. Unfortunately, the closest store to me that had 2015 Figeac didn't have much of a Bordeaux selection to I improvised and backfilled on some Cali cab I've been eyeing for a while.

3 2015 Mount Veeder Winery Rsv @$35.69
2 2016 Honig Cab @$32.29

One advantage of this lockdown is its easy to reallocate $$ towards wine purchases instead.

Couple of cases of 2015 Olga Raffault Les Picasses, case of 2014 Pepiere Thebaud, more 2018 Hippolyte Reverdy and a bunch of champagnes ranging from Noel Bazin in both some L’unanime NV and 2011 L’Ettonnante to some Agrapart Terroirs NV to a 2014 Laherte Freres Les Crayeres 1er, to a 2014 Ulysse Colin Les Maillons to some 2006 Taittinger CdC.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Inspired by our december wine dinner that Marcus organized, I found a 1989 Huet le Haut Lieu Premiere Trie and also a 1989 Huet Le Mont Premiere Trie. The LHL that David brought was easily one of my wines of the night(along with the 1997 Jadot Chapelle Chambertin and the Pre ID Krug). The LHL was probably one of my wines of the year (2019). Really hoping this one lives up. Will find out in a couple of weeks.

Thats a good haul of QPR 2016 BDX Gerry, what price were you able to snag the Capbern for? I love that wine
Re: So what have you bought lately?
On the NH sale it netted to $23.37 a bottle. I test drove one yesterday and was fairly impressed. I posted a note on CT and am thinking with 3 to 5 years it will come together nicely.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Solid price, I got about a case of them from total wine for around 25.. with a 1-2 hour decant its great but I agree completely on the 3-5 years. Although I am sure that I will probably test that theory at least one bottle per year moving forward.

Hopefully my last purchase for a while.

Snapped up a couple of 2006 Domaine De Chevalier at auction. There were some interesting comments in another thread on the variability of the 06 vintage, so will be interesting to see how these show up.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I predict you will be pleased with those bottles, Ian, 2006 is a "light on its feet" vintage that I think does well in that region.
I was very pleased with my case of 2006 Haut Bailley, although someone here I think was recently disappointed.
I have 5 bottles left.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
A few months ago I noticed that the small liquor store near my house put some 2011 Larose Trintaudon in their Bordeaux wine rack. Tonight on the way home I picked up 2 bottles @ $18.99 ea. Chances are, I'll get a couple more in May, before its all gone. Its a nice weeknight wine and I only had 6 (of the '11s) left from the 22 I had previously purchased elsewhere.
Same store where I bought a bunch of '07s a few years ago. They were real good for a lightweight vintage at 10 years of age.

I've had bit of an inconsistent experience with the 06's so far, but had put that down to the individual estates rather than the actual vintage eg SHL I was underwhelmed with, whereas the Calon Segur had recently was sumptuous. I haven't tried the 06 Haut Bailly but did actually have a few of their second wine, La Parde de Haut Bailly 06, and enjoyed those very much.
I predict that you'll enjoy your remaining 5 bottles
