Re: So what have you bought lately?
NH used to have good selections of both red and white Burgundy.
I remember getting a half dozen bottles Dauvissat from some now-forgotten vintage.
Where does one get Dauvissat these days.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Apparently, everyone in Burgundy is related, one Dauvissat does not equal another. Same with a Girardin, a Leflaive, a Mugneret, a Carillon, a Hudelot or a de Montille, etc... These people should really start thinking about copyrights and trademarks. Even experienced buyers like Ian can get stung.
So this is the estate of the poor cousins or other distant relatives of Vincent Dauvissat who wants you to pay $80-300 for a bottle of his Chablis. The ones I got went for $40 at B-21 in Tarpon Springs, FL. I have no prior experience with these Dauvissat but I had finished all my 2014 White Burgundies and wanted some more.
B-21 has some Vincent Dauvissat for sale, I didn't buy any.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Picked off a 6pack of the 2008 Canon for $61.89/per from a Grand Vin Wine Merchants email offer and just went straight to checkout. Also picked up a cases of the 2019 Thivin Côte de Brouilly and the 2019 Hippolyte Reverdy Sancerre via wholesale as these Kermit favorites never go out of style.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
After reading Jim's comments about the 2015 Corbin I was prepared to make the pilgrimage to NH and buy at least 6 bottles and wipe out another store of their remaining 11 2016. Oh well, after reading further how great both the 18' and 19' are expected to be i took a breath and realized i need to practice cellar management or at least make the attempt.
I did go there but was a little more modest.
6 2016 Corbin
3 2015 Larose Trintaudon
3 Krug 168e
If I do see some 2015 Corbin around locally ill still pick up a couple.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Well done, Gerry.
I was looking at my receipt from my first of two purchases this week, it looks like they screwed it up again in my favor.
Of my 58 bottles ordered I only ordered one bottle of 2015 Marquis de Terme.
They charged me for 5 bottles, but did not charge me for 4 bottles of 2016 Grand Puy Lacoste.
In other words, instead of charging me for one bottle of 2015 Marquis de Terme and four bottles of 2016 GPL, they charged me for five bottles of 2015 Marquis de Terme.
Do we have any word on why they have changed their website to a less user-friendly format?

I have not heard anything as to why. I am thinking about sending a message to Concord to highlight the deficiencies of the new format.
I went to Salem today for those bottles but may still stop by Hooksett if I happen to be up that way. I have to go up that way next Sunday to take a tour of where my sons getting married next year.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
It's hard to say what's left of the Corbins in NH, Gerry, I think we cleaned them out pretty good.
That inventory you sent me says there are 12 bottles of the 2016 in both the north and southbound Hampton stores, that would be a new development.
Ah well, I'll wait for the 18 and 19.

Hmm, would it be useful to know our WineBid names so we don’t bid against each other?Chateau Vin wrote:Yes, stefan. I was able to snag them all in...It was at winebid, and I didn't see our BWE usual suspects as bidders.stefan wrote:Good score, CV. Was this purchase from an auction?
Years ago, I outbid Blanquito by accident on a bottle of Sauternes since I didn’t recognize his name.

Blanquito has the same handle, and mine is transyt7. And stefan doesn’t use it anymore. That’s all I know... would be interested if others use the site so that we don’t bid against one another...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
As the cognoscenti here wise up to how anomalously cheap the 2014s are (relative to say 2011/12/17) my sense of urgency to backfill this classic vintage has taken on a greater sense of urgency:
GPL x 12 @ £450ib
Ducru x 6 @ £550ib
D’Issan x 6 @ £215ib
Pichon Baron x 6 @£444
Any other 2014 reccos please? I already have VCC, PLL, Leoville Barton and La Conseillante
I also took Robert and Patrick’s advice to buy some Beaujolais in a marketing pitch allied to some Puisse:
2018 Pouilly Fuisse, Tete de Cuvee, Chateau de Fuisse
@ £273 c/s 12 bottles In Bond or £359.40 inc. VAT (crossed out)
@ £215 c/s 12 bottles In Bond or £290 inc. VAT (= £24.17 per bottle – Bargain!) - 50 cases available (12 bottles per case)
Brimming with ripe yellow plums and nectarines with candied lemon/lime citrus and honeysuckle; delightfully pure and harmonious with a warming creamy oak consistency and a lovely deft finish. Long and luxurious.
97 points, Platinum Medal, 2020 Decanter World Wine Awards
...Maybe I am a loser and a sucker because the rational side of my brain cautions to steer clear of 2018 white burgs...
Then this:
2018 Côte de Brouilly, Les Sept Vignes, Château Thivin, Beaujolais
@ £150 c/s bottles In Bond or £212.11 c/s inc. VAT (= £17.68 per bottle – A steal!) - 50 cases available (12 bottles per case)
Thivin is one of the greatest vignerons in France and its wines represent some of the best value you will ever find. This exemplary outfit makes sensational reds from the gamay variety and they all manage to capture the essence of their village, the history of the region and the drama and splendour of top-flight Cru Beaujolais.
This entry-level Côte de Brouilly, Les Sept Vignes, is made from a blend of seven different parcels of vines. With wild, red-berry fruit and a dusting of earthiness and gaminess, this is one of the most thirst-quenching and yet classy wines I have tasted this year. Coming from 50-year-old vines atop blue volcanic rock, it is perhaps no surprise that this wine is so noble.
Wine of the week: load up on this stellar Beaujolais, Matthew Jukes, Moneyweek.com

Oh yes I almost forgot a six pack of 2008 Comtes for £535ib...there has been a bit of a scrum for this so I count myself lucky to latch on to six because the production is quite small.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Very well done, Comte. Very well done indeed.
Don't be afraid to go to the right bank as well from 2014.
The Malartic Lagraviere I had recently was stunning.
As I think I've said before, about the only 2014 I've found disappointing, ironically, is Lynch Bages.
I've got a case which I'll double blanquito.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Ian's auction scores always make me gnash my teeth a bit because those London auction prices are so much better than you can get in the U.S., those 2014 prices he got are like the initial U.S. release prices.
Anyway, I recently spent a SHIT TON of money at auctions and I need our ace enablers here at BWE to help me justify this to myself. FULL CASES of the following wines:
2004 Leoville Barton at $80/bottle all in
2004 Pichon Baron at $125/bottle all in
2011 Vieux Chateau Certan at $135/bottle all in
1997 Jadot Chambertin Clos De Beze at $207/bottle all in
Here is my personal inner enabler dialogue (bear with me here):
--I really like 2004s as drinkers now and for the next 5-10 years, and the LB and PB are particularly good. For those prices I could also have gotten cases of the 2014s of those wines, which I'm sure will be equally good or possibly better in time, but I don't think that 2014s will be as good as 2004s are today until about 2030. Since I did not start buying until the 2000 vintage, and rarely bought case lots, I have recently backfilled good left bank drinking wines -- I now have 9*1995 GPL, 8*1999 Leoville Barton, 19*2004 Leoville Barton (largest holding of any single wine), 8*2001 Pichon Baron, and 12*2004 Pichon Baron, in addition to my other holdings of ready to drink cab-based wines (e.g. 17*2001 Philip Togni, second largest holding of a single wine). That plus my 2000s and 2005s starting to come around should be enough to meet my mature Cabernet needs through the 2020s.
--2011 seems to be a sleeper vintage for VCC, with Cellartracker and Neal Martin rating it just as good as the 2014 at a somewhat lower price. (I did see an auction case of the 2014 go for $155/bottle, not bad although still a bit more expensive than what I paid). Actually CT even rates it as good as the 2005, which seems unlikely, but I have seen a number of people saying it is a right bank WOTV. VCC prices are going up, although I don't think prices for a 2011 are going to skyrocket or anything. I am set on VCC after this impulse purchase, since I have a bunch of vintages going back to 1998.
--The 1997 Jadot wasn't cheap in an absolute sense, but new vintages of this wine are easily over $300, and this bottle is mature. I had a 1998 Jadot Beze that really knocked me out (wine of the night at a dinner we had at Dinos with a couple of other BWEers), and all reports are that Jadot did fantastic in 1997, better than 1998. (Although I got the 1998 long ago at $100/bottle from Premier Cru, so I've paid for the upgrade). The price was $40/bottle below the WS world low price (from London), and far below below any U.S. retail price for a Jadot Beze from the 1990s, if you can even find them
OK, that's my inner dialogue. Of course I can generate such a dialogue for ANY wine a buy so it's not worth much.
