I picked up some of that 2016 Levet Chavaroche as well.
The local wine store has received a case about a year ago with no takers, he still has 8 bottles. Northern Rhone is a tough sell in Sarasota for some reason.

It's a wine I've always wanted to try but for some reason never had the opportunity. Given the age and producer I'm hopeful its not too far over the hill. It has a reputation of being one of the best years for Giscours.

I got an email at 12:30 this afternoon saying they had 7 bottles and an hour later they only had 2 left.

3 Chateau La Gaffeliere - Clos La Gaffeliere 2015. the second label of La Gaffeliere. $27.00 a bottle. This is made with the younger vines of La Gaffeliere. The Chateau says that they vinify in the same manner as L Gaffeliere except it spends only one year in oak. I had a bottle before this purchase and it's a very good QPR.

The '89s are for our Oregon lake house, David. But if truth be told, I am also short of '89s for drinking at home, so this purchase gives me an excuse to look for some to ship to Texas.

Very well done, jckba!

I bought nearly 300 bottles of 2014 Bordeaux on my own inspiration, at incredible prices that I doubt we'll ever see again. I'm my own inspiration usually on these things, I taste them, if I like them, I buy more. I trust my own palate more than anybody else's.

Oh 4 Three again at HDH Auction yesterday. First one 250% of estimate, white Burg, got caught up in the fever live, still not good enough, the curse of the catalogue photo, glad I lost now that the fever has resolved. The other two “only” 120% of estimate, internet bids, old Bordeaux actually rang the bell on both of them but someone else voted earlier.

I should give up on them but once in a while I actually do win. Just that slight amount of pleasure to endure all the pain.

I took a flier on a 6-pack of the 2012 Jean-Marc Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne at K&L auctions.

I know JM Boillot is not a great producer and there's the premox risk for an 8 year-old white burg, but getting a single vineyard Puligny for $52.50 all-in from a producer I generally find (at least) good, it was too hard to pass up. (I was surprised no one outbid me actually.)

Patrick I really like JM Boillot and have had great experiences with his wines, maybe I have been fortunate. That is a terrific price. I love his style of Puligny.

Good to hear! I've had JM Boillot a few times (but not usually at this level) and at worst I always enjoyed. I think it was Ramon who first introduced me to this producer...

Yes, just checked, it was Ramon's bottle at an offline over 7 years-ago:
2007 J.M. Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs-Gain -- Bright and lighter than the Jobard with some minerals and a deft kiss of oak. Yummy. 93 pts.

There are so many, but if I had to pick only one it would be Grapes in North White Plains. Daniel Posner gets good stuff, and sends a daily email with his sales.

Patrick, your rave Cellartracker TN on the 16 Beychevelle was a major factor in getting me to buy it. I figure with you I get ironclad protection against modernist Bordeaux, an issue where other commenters have often failed me!

Also good to hear, Jacques. I bought 4-5 bottles of JM Biollot’s 2007 village Puligny and those all held up well.

The wine I might buy more of is Niellon’s Chassagne village 2017 which I thought was great. It’s $50-$60 in the USA, not cheap for a village but they seemed to make such wonderful 2017s.

I would have bought some 16 Beychevelle, Marcus, but for the pricing — I bought the 16 Branaire and 16 Langoa Barton instead as they were $35-$40 cheaper... I’ve only had the Beychevelle that one time and it was super impressive but as I noted and recall, it was texturally polished. The fruit and alcohol seemed perfectly balanced, but the refinement on the tannins did stand out. Now maybe that’s a good thing and this beauty ends up elegant and rich, like a first growth or something. At worst, I thought it a wonderful wine, I’m just a wary generally of “tannin management”.

Yeah, I tried the Branaire myself and LOVED it and bought five bottles. But I've had trouble finding good prices. There is one good place selling for $50 but they don't ship to my long term storage. Otherwise I would have more. Current prices on the Branaire Ducru are $65 on the general market, I figured for $80 I would try Beychevelle, although a case is a lot to try.
