2015 and 2016 Corbin

Post by JimHow »

So I loaded up on 2016 Corbin, and I brought six bottles of the 2015 based on Musigny-151s enthusiasm for the two vintages.
It came in at like $37 (I'm too lazy to check my receipt), compared to the $39 for the 2016.
This 2015, like the 2016, is STUNNING. Sipping on it now. Now this is what I call merlot!
Brilliantly balanced, the way St Emilion should be.
Wow, wow, wow!
I'll post a picture soon of my plethora of Corbins.
This 2015 has everything... nose, palate, balance, Bordeaux right bank normalcy in this crazy world.

Wow!

Ratings:

2015 Corbin: 95 points.

2016 Corbin 95+ points.

Bobby, I REALLY think you would like this wine. It just really seems beautifully styled in these vintages that offered great raw materials for the artists.
We've met Annabelle several times, she is really, really as good as it gets in Bordeaux, left or right bank.
Anyone who has met her will agree with me that that is not hyperbole.

This 2015 Corbin is much more balanced than my friend Howard Kwok's 2015 tour Saint Christophe.
Absolutely NO alcohol intrusion at all in the 2015.
Their 2016s are more on an even plane.

Seems fabulous. Unfortunately, no Chateau Corbin available in Québec at the moment. :-(

I'm grateful to Musigny-151, I was prepared to skip over the 2015 vintage but I'm glad I didn't, it is basically as good as the outstanding '16.
Incredible balance, no alcohol intrusion, beautiful merlot fruit, drink now and for the next 25 years.
And they go for like $37 in NH, a GREAT price, really, the wine is worth three times that much.
Oh, and by the way, we have had the pleasure of meeting Annabelle Cruse Bardinet three times at BWE events, this is as good as it gets.

JimH,

Just wait until you get your hands on 2018 Corbin and later 2019 Corbin, with the latter to potentially be Anabelle's best vintage yet produced :D

JimH,

Anabelle started with parcel by parcel vinification when her new cellar with numerous vats was ready for harvest 2016.

For 2019 vintage she did less extraction/maceration, max temp 26 degrees, partial fermentation in barrel and ageing in glass globe. This vintage shows great precision, focus and style.

For me, 2019 is the best Corbin I've ever tasted en primeur. I don't want to have glory shining too much over my head, but only me and Yves Beck are nuts about it but Jeff Leve less so and James Suckling even less so.

I'm glad to have tasted all vintages of Corbin made by Anabelle, 1998 to 2019, and some old ones like 1945 and 1959.

Yes, it's stylish, classy, not overdone, not overextracted, elegant Saint-Emilion, not old school, I would say classic for the district with a few modern touches. Great, great quality for the price!

Yeah, "not overdone." Sometimes the best descriptors of a wine are what they are not.

$37 is a great price for either vintage. Best I see on Winesearcher is about $40.

OK Jimbo, you are in the hot seat! Used some Wine.com coupons to grab 4 bottles of the 2016 Corbin for $32.50 per!

I only did this because you rave about it. Ok, and so does MarkG.

If this is some modern glossy dreg as Bobby Goulet seems to think, without actually trying it, we will personally fly up to Maine and make you chug some thin weedy green Loire Cab Franc to recalibrate your aging palate!

;)

Jim, I'm looking at an auction with 4x6 OWC's for a total of 24 bottles of the 2015 Corbin. I really don't need it but If I could get an incredible price I might just jump at it. I'm thinking $30/bottle or slightly under but don't know if that's realistic. What do you think?

I just found out:

2015: 14.5%
2016: 14%
2018: 15%

Stone the crows, and starve the lizards; is Corbin going over to the dark side? Or is it global warming?

Howard Spector, the detector, found some evidence supporting the former thesis.

Under $30 is definitely a deal, Gerry, I’ve got a mixed total of 20 bottles of the 2015 and 2016, I’ll but the 2018 and 2019s based on GBF’s recommendations alone. I don’t see how you can lose trying for at least one six bottle case! I think the alcohol is under control in these wines.

Lol, its being sold as one lot of 24. I may take a shot at it since most of my other bids have not held up. So much for a tanking economy.
