TN: 2007 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau

  • 2007 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (12/11/2009)
I like this wine, it is complex and ripe. But I can't say it is profoundly better than the 2006 Vieux Telegraphe, which I also liked. It has spice, pepper and raspberries, and will definitely age for a considerable period of time. It is deceptive in its strength, a Theophilo Stephenson in the ring. While the bouquet was not dramatic, the palate was rich, round and ripe, without any rough edges. The 14.5% alcohol was in check, this wine is very balanced. Very long finish. Minerals and earth, medium ruby colored. This is an excellent wine, just not otherworldly. Rating: 93 points. (93 pts.)

I liked the 06 VT a lot... lovely, elegant, but rich and powerful... classic VT with good acid to keep it going!

However lovely I find the 07s, they for me are a bit ripe, and I (due to both worry, and voluptuousness want to drink them all up!) because they are both very tasty already, and I worry that they are too ripe to be longer than 10-15 year wines!!!!

Last night I had my first taste of 2007 southern Rhone, a glass of Belleruche Côtes du Rhône at a restaurant in Denton TX. It had lots of flavors and fruit; a decent wine for new world wine lovers who want to try an old world wine without being challenged, but certainly OK for me, too.

Paper cup or no...

'07 Rhones may not be to stefan's taste, given the very ripe style.
