The 2009s were made with only Belair fruit, and the Magdelaine vineyards were only incorporated in 2012.
The wine was dark, with as one would expect, no sign of browning. The nose is rich, dark fruit, and relatively simple. There is a tinge of spice but this is fairly anonymous. Hard to say that it is even Bordeaux, blind my guess would be a medium quality California wine. Not my style, but typical of where so many Saint Emilion wines have been going.
This is not one of those Luddite diatribes; the wine is well made, and very amiable. My wife liked it more than I did, but remarked about its lack of finish. For me, the problem is its lack of complexity. One glass was about all I could take.
I have not tasted it post the absorption of Magdelaine except in barrel. I have a 2014 downstairs, and will open it next month. A more classic vintage, and some great terroir might make for a better wine.

Expect more from the pedigree and cost. When you pay that much for a bottle you want a sure thing and unfortunately it is becoming more and more a crap shoot especially with QPR. Hopefully the 14 brings more promise but what you describe is commonplace in St Emillion.

Yes. Figeac has gone, Canon has gone and Magdelaine has vanished. That leaves Cheval and Corbin.

I don’t get y’all’s infatuation with Corbin. Well made but definitely modern. Corbin Micotte is what’s left. Cheval is the tits but too pricey for my country lawyer income.

I was looking to buy a bottle of the 2008 Belair Monange but never did it. The price was high, for a wine from an aoc that is far from being my favorite.
Had a 2015 Grand Mayne tonight. While the wine is oaky, it is still fruity and modern and complex enough to make it excellent, but let say it didn't get me into any emotional satisfaction.

As wild a ride as it was, I was thrilled by that 2010 Troplong Mondot with Jacques and Jill at my house. These recent Corbins are big and fruity and will drink well for 30 years, I’m a fan.

I was in Bordeaux for a few days last week with Alex and Christine and though I found the wines expensive I bought a bottles of Les Songes De Magdelaine 2010 for 32 euros, and a bottle of Corbin 2014 for 30 euros. I also bought a bottle of La Tour Haut-Brion 1985 for 150 euros. I will reply to Alex’s excellent post later on.

That being said, I listened to a 2 hour podcast with Christian Mouiex and it was impressive. Amazing achievements.
