2009 BWE Wine of the Year / Chicago '10
I've been really busy the past couple weeks but things should slow down a bit after today, and I expect to devote some attention to the 2009 BWE Wine of the Year and the Chicago '10 convention in the next few days....

Jim - what about a BWE 'Wine of the Decade' - put to a democratic vote of board members ...![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

BWE "Wine of the Decade?" Surely there would be no need to vote on that. It would have to be 1989 Lynch Bages by unanimous acclimation, wouldn't it?

We did a showdown last year that included the 89 LB and Baron. At that time the Baron was the hands down winner! Sorry Jim.

Democratic vote, Ian? What's that? I much prefer the old-fashioned way. Jim, as BD, is kingmaker. He makes his pick and then bribes us with a 3L or 6L of it at the next convention. We'll be in Chicago, what could be more natural?

One other thing I was thinking about - logistics of getting wine there. I am not liking the idea of packing wine in my luggage. Is there a local who will be accepting shipments?
And BD - do we have a theme?

I am sure we can work something out for shipping wine
Jon and I will discuss and let folks know

Danny, the '89 Lynch defeated the '89 Baron in Chicago in a couple of epic Thrilla in Manilla type battles in 2001 and 2004, in true blind tastings, long before this site turned into the kumbaya Parkerized squires-wannabee it has become. It has offered enjoyment at Harvard lectures we have conducted, has been probably the proximate cause of Jean Michel Cazes participating on this site and at France '05, has been the wine enjoyed by and that has bonded countless BWEers around the world in the past decade. Before BWE lost its hipness, Lynch '89 was the heart and soul of this site. Of course it would be the BWE wine of the decade!

Like any loyal subject of a benevolent dictator, I agree with his wise decisions.
For the reasons stated "the '89 Lynch defeated the '89 Baron in Chicago in a couple of epic Thrilla in Manilla type battles in 2001 and 2004 in true blind tastings" and "has been the wine enjoyed by and that has bonded countless BWEers around the world in the past decade ... Lynch '89 was the heart and soul of this site"
1989 Lynch Bages is the BWE Wine of the Decade

I couldn't argue with that - if it was an award for the best wine it might be something like Mouton 86 - but by virtue of being the most controversial and talked about wine - a wine afterall that we all love in our own different ways - it is hard to deny it that accolade.

I don't think we could even consider any other wine for BWE WOTDecade. How could it not be '89 Lynch? In addition to all of the above, wasn't '89 Lynch the wine Jim was sipping when he created BWE?

I agree
Long live 1989 Lynch Bages

Jim,
I give!! No question for all of the reasons stated over the years the 89 Lynch deserves to be wine of the decade. There is no other wine that has presented so much intrigue, hype, controversy and pleasure.
It was a little unfair in Chicago 04 with a corked bottle of the purple Baron swinging against the Lynch. If I recall the Debacle in DC
some unnamed honourable member(Jim H) at a blind tasting didn't even recognize the 89 LB let alone rank it as a contender!
All in jest, I still think the 89 Lynch should be the hands down favourite wine of the decade.
Danny
PS What about wine of 2009? Has this been derailed again!

It was the 1975 Leoville Las Cases, David, the hangover from which I was recovering on the Saturday morning of February 26, 2000, when BWE was created....

I'll never let the facts stand in the way of a good story, Jim...
Doesn't change my support for '89 Lynch as BWE WOTD. In fact, '89 Lynch should be our mascot wine. In perpetuity. Kind of like the Georgia's UGA: when one's gone, another can be found to replace it. Not that it's a dog, mind you...
