I am currently in buying freeze #32 of the year.

Each day you don’t buy counts as a successful buying freeze!

Probably one of the smartest catch for someone who likes Chinon!

Lately, feeling weird, so bought some:

2019 Quintas de Simaens Borges Vinho Verde
2020 Muros Antigos Vinho Verde
2020 Loureiro Vinho Verde

2018 Le Fraghe Brol Grande Bardolino Classico (light red)
2020 Grolleau Catherine et Pierre Breton (even lighter than the Bardolino).

2 x 1996 Leoville Barton

Benchmark at $150, plus if you have Amex Plat, you can get $50 of $250.

So I paid $125 per for this most excellent, classic wine. BobbyG and I had it a few months and it was the star of the ball in a lineup of stalwarts.

Freeze is thawed: 6 x 2014 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc

This is my go-to Bordeaux blanc along with Carbonnieux, and Neal Martin’s 94 pts and the $46 on-sale pricing (temporarily) overwhelmed my willpower.

5 2006 Grand Corbin-Despagne $136.50 all in

I wanted some cheaper Bordeaux to throw down when we are at our lake house. I hope this one is near maturity and drinkable.

Guys
I bought 3 6 bottle cases of Champagne Cattier NV Brut Icone at a sale last week, they were just delivered.
It was about half the usual price thus it will happily be glugged down without too much thought.
I was also given 3 bottles of sake which I really have no idea about other than I last drank it several years ago in Tokyo and didn't like it much.
Must say though it did taste better than Chinese Baijiu (or "white liquor") which is consumed by the pallet load and tastes awful to my westernised palate.
It is however the most consumed spirit drink in the world.

The red bottle sake in the middle is called "Revolution" and the other two have entirely Japanese writing.

Thanks to a couple NH gift cards from Winona Chief, I was able to secure a 2018 Leoville Barton on the way home last night for $65, I’ll share it with you in another blanquito or two, Chris!

2000 Haut Brion. Officially the most expensive bottle of wine I have purchased to date. But I got a good deal. And I thought the bottle that David brought was utterly fantastic. Hopefully it turns out well. It will definitely have to be opened with some BWE folks at some point.

Seems like there is a lot of old fashioned inflation in the US wine market.

Doesn’t seem very (pretty or) transitory to me

Go Team Transitory!

Dang supply chain! Container vessels pile up off coast of CA. Maybe this will increase the reshoring (or at least near-shoring) of various key industries and processes, and a renaissance In rail transport?

Sorry to let you down, Patrick, but it has been 16 days since I took a sip of wine. That's longer than when I went into the hospital to have a couple of specialized butchers cut out half my stomach and 2/3 of my esophagus.

Thanks, guys.

Tonight, since my temperature has been at or below normal all day and I took no acetaminophen, I had a glass of 2017 St Innocent Justice with salmon. Wow, did this taste good. Fullish with black cherries and a bit of tar. That and great company for a zoom dinner made me feel much better.

Bravo. Glad you to hear you are feeling improved. Nothing like some time away from wine to make it all taste so good again.

I wasn’t planning to. One of those moments when you are listening to an an auction, half asleep, and somehow your subconscious makes you aware that there are four bottles of Latour 1966 are being offered at $1000 hammer.

For a while I thought ‘66 Latour was on its deathbed. But the last bottle was fabulous so I know it’s just bottle variation and provenance. Great haul, Mark.

One had signs of past seepage, but at $150 per, was willing to take the risk. If 2 of 3 show, I’m happy.

I got beat on the 1995. Also looking for 2008.
