Bill, at the guided tasted we had small pours of the Shea and the Shea Terrace Block side be side. The Shea has the typical Shea purity and red fruit, while the Terrace Block is darker, deeper, and brooding right now. I wouldn't say that the price differential is justified on the basis of quality, but Lucie really liked the Terrace Block, so I opted for a six pack and hope to drink some of it before I adjourn to That Great Tasting Room in the Sky.

The other 2018s drink well now even if they will also age for 10-20 years, but none of the youngsters compete with e.g. 2017 Temperance Hill for immediate gratification. I should buy more of it. It is cheap enough that I would like to have sufficient quantity whenever I want a PN but don't want to think about what to open. I think SI still has a lot of it. SI has a limited supply of 2017 Momtazi, so Lucie & I drank a bottle of this at the SI dinner that followed the guided tasting to see if we wanted more of it (it is the same price as the TH). It's a decent wine, but the TH is so much better for our taste and I would prefer to use our limited storage in Oregon for the TH.

2010 LdH Tondonia Reserva mag
The ‘Bottle King’ chain in Jersey and the deal through the distributor is you need to support the brand (similar in vein to getting the allocations for any of the GR, the whites or the rose) and from what I pieced together, you get allocated 1 mag for every 3 case purchase of ‘09 Tondonia R, ‘10 Bosconia R and/or ‘13 Cubillo. Some stores get 1, some 2 and some more, so my advice would be try and frequent a store that supports the brand and does high volume as I think that will increase your odds.

Light on 2014's so purchased the following:
2*ARMAILHAC
2*CLERC MILON
6*CALON SEGUR
LEOVILLE BARTON
2*MONTROSE

Has anyone tried the Montrose 14?
For me it's the beginning of a vertical which runs to 2020 thus far.

Oh man, very, very well done indeed, Conor.
Those are among my favorite 2014s.
I haven't had the Montrose though, but I'm guessing it's great.

Thanks Jim, largely inspired by your enthusiastic write up's, but estates have had many times over the years and, more often that not, left with very favourable impressions.

More 2019s.... Couldn't believe the price on the Figeac so close to the original release.

6x Figeac at $170
3x Cos d'Estournel at $160

I was planning a very similar St Innocent purchase, Bill. I’ve never had their Chardonnays, are they any good?

Mike, are those 2019s in stock?

I like SI's Chardonnays. They are reasonably priced for summer quaffing. They generally are more on the mineral side with clean fruit and minimum oak. No butter! I much prefer Willamette Chardonnays to Cali. I also like Walter Scott, Goodfellow, and Haden Fig (Evesham Woods).

I like Goodfellow Chardonnays, especially those from Whistling Ridge, more than SI Chards. I also drink Domaine Drouhin's. I just got around to ordering some for Walter Scott to see how I like them. Like the other Bill, in general I very much prefer Willamette Valley Chardonnays to those from California.

Unfortunately that 35% year over year price increase for the 2016’s was applicable across all of their Baroli and Barbaresco’s

Thanks Mike. Looks like the same folks who own Michael’s on East, a nice restaurant in Sarasota we’ve enjoyed a few times. Once with Jacques and Jim for a mini BWE gathering. I went in for 6 at that price.

Popped into my local wine store last night and it was running a 40% off French wine sale.
Selection is small but picked up a single bottle of 2016 Sociando Mallet. Not an estate that I've had before so looking forward to trying it.

As an aside, the retail price of wine in Ireland is extortionate. Even with 40% off, it was still 10/15% more expensive than anything on W-S. Mainly due to government added Vat and Duties. So why did I still buy you ask?!? Well I find it very hard to put down a bottle once I've picked it up, will obviously avoid shipping/handling charges, and it's a small independent wine store so like to support local where I can.

I’m ethnically Irish by the way - I have the same surname as the guy whose funeral was in Ulysses by James Joyce. Not sure I really liked the novel though.

Over here in Singapore the prices are 50-100% higher than in France or USA for quality wines.

There are of course clearances etc which narrow the gap but even the cheap supermarket wine that costs say, €3 in France or Spain will cost around $25 here (€17) due to taxes and freight costs. No wonder the locals just drink beer and cheap spirits.

Cheers
Mark

Not a wine purchase, but wine related. I got an email from Wayfair that said that the 171 bottle Lanbo wine fridge that I ordered would be delayed and arrive after we return to Texas. So I cancelled the order and ordered a 149 bottle Lanbo from Lanbo itself (because delivery for the 171 unit from them was also delayed). After doing all this, I got another email from Wayfair that said that they could not cancel the order because it had already been shipped! The new date of delivery is while we are still here. So I complained to Lucie, "Now I have to contact Lanbo and cancel the second order, or tell Wayfair that I refuse to accept delivery on the first. What a pain!" Lucie, bless her heart, responded, "You know we'll need more storage down the road and found space in the garage for the units, so why not keep both?"

Well, OK. But now we'll have a completely empty unit that I must fill at least partly to make sure that it works.

The conundrum we all face: Is 2008 Pichon Baron 8 times as good as 2014 Lanessan?

Can you dive into the math on that for us please, sir?

Also is the 1989 Pichon Baron 3 times as good as the 2008?

And is the 1989 Haut Brion 5 times as good as the 1989 Lynch Bages?

In all seriousness though, I think wine rides the line between product and art. Sometimes crosses over to one side or the other.

Being direct customer for a number of Burg producers, it seems the rage is to sell only 1 bottle of each cru in their range.
So I got 18 bottles of Castagnier (9 domaines, 9 negociants) who has lots of grand crus in both ranges, ... I got 12 bottles of Mugneret Gibourg
and will get a pack of Bart... and some Barthod later. I broke the bank to buy a Musigny Drouhin 2018 and Berthet gerbault Vosne es petits monts (3) and Suchots (1) and am waiting to know whether I'll get any Roumier.
Bordeaux 2019 deliveries are delayed for some reasons.

Lots of delays on 2019 Bordeaux, and they will be trickling in over the rest of the year.

My big purchase was a case of Phelps Eisele 1984, back when they were making good wine.
