1964 Haut Brion is one of the first first growths that we bought, way back in 1970. It is arguably the best of the 1964 first growths.

Considering that wholesale prices are up $20 year over year on this one I snagged 3x2019 Thibaud Boudignon ‘Clos de La Hutte’ Savennieres @ $75.99 along with 6x2020 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rouge @ $49.99 b/c there really is no better house red than this.

Tempier's Bandol normale is so good, I should really buy it more often. I just remember too vividly when it cost $30 to pull the trigger at $50-$60.

Ha-ha. The 1964 Haut-Brion mentioned above I first bought for $10. I would happily pay ten times that now. :D :D

According to an inflation calculator I found on google, $10 in 1970 would only be worth $78.18 in today’s dollars. I’d pay $78 for any vintage of Haut Brion.

Snagged the last 3 btls of 2019 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge from Total Wine in River Edge, NJ for $64.97/per + tax which I thought was quite reasonable considering most everything else is a total rip off

2 more 2019 Beychevelle for $66 at Costco (bringing my total to 4(. Interesting, Galloni went on record saying this wine pushes the boundaries of over ripeness. Every other official suck-up liked it though.

Congratulations on finding a favorite, Nic!

The Grand Siecle was the first favorite luxury cuvée I got hooked on back in the ‘80s, before I went down the Krug and Salon rabbit hole. I don’t see it around nearly as much as back then. My recollection is that some were blends of 3 specific vintages and others were ???less specific??? And now they number the releases. Is it now a blend like a Krug MV, with multiple vintages? Is there a way to know what’s in “No. 25?”

I'm fairly sure that the #25 has a 2008 base. Hence the price increase. The #24 was great last year, although needed a lot of air.

« The newest release of Grand Siècle is based upon the superb and structured 2008 vintage (65% of the blend), along with the vivacious 2007 vintage (25%), and the creamy, luxurious 2006 (10%). The final blend is 60% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and 40% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims. » from Décanter.
